Navy Veteran Michael Shares His MCCH Story
Michael served our nation for three years in the Navy. On October 28, 2015, he ended his homelessness through MCCH's Operation Homecoming permanent supportive housing program. We were proud share Michael's story at our 2016 Gala and want to share it again with you as the county approaches another milestone: ending chronic homelessness. Donors Making a Difference
After finding a permanent home for a large family that was experiencing homelessness, our staff were relieved until they realized we needed enough household essentials for all seven family members, including blankets, sheets, pillows, and more!

Due to limited financial resources, we weren't able to purchase these items for the family. So we turned to our friends in MCCH's Urgent Needs Task Force Facebook group and asked if anyone could fill this need. Within hours, all items were ordered and on their way to our office, thanks to the members of our group and especially Jen Ashby, who donated the majority of the items.

We are so grateful for their generous donations and commitment to our clients! These items will help this family enjoy their new home while they heal from the trauma of homelessness.
In between practices over spring break, the Connelly School of the Holy Child varsity lacrosse team made and delivered over 200 lunches for the clients at our HBCAC Men's Emergency Shelter! We're inspired by our young community members and their efforts to help end homelessness in our county.
It comes down to the question of not, ‘What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with that kid? Why is he behaving like that?’ to ‘What happened to you?’ which is a very different question.”

Oprah Winfrey recently discovered something MCCH has been practicing for years: trauma informed care. As someone who personally experienced childhood trauma, she approached 60 Minutes with the idea to share this important approach to providing any type of social services. Watch the segment (or read the article) to hear how trauma informed care has changed every aspect of her life.
Thank you for your commitment to ensuring that all Montgomery County residents have a safe, stable and affordable place to call home!

Sincerely,

Susie Sinclair-Smith, Executive Director
