President's Message: Women Like You
With MORE WOMEN LIKE YOU, there is strength, wisdom, and civic dialogue in learning about our community and investing in ways to IMPACT our region.  Together, we collectively fund the $416,000 in 2018 grant dollars and, collectively, the  2018 Grant Finalists  were thoroughly vetted. Collectively, we have a bevy of upcoming events to "Spread the Word" to friends about Impact 100 and many of our Grant Recipients.

As we prepare to award grants to FOUR new recipients, last year's grant recipients - Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, First Step Home, Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, & Ohio Valley Voices - have each begun to put their grant money into action and are leveraging their grants to have an IMPACT on the community.   Why? Because of the support of WOMEN LIKE YOU.

Just last week, Forbes published an article titled " The Rise of the Female Philanthropist - And Three Big Bets They Make."  Why? Because WOMEN LIKE YOU are engaging and defining the next decade of female philanthropy.

This September 13th is the Annual Awards Celebration  where  WOMEN LIKE YOU  network and hear from our Grant Finalists, share a meal, and learn which nonprofits will receive four grants of $104,000 each after members vote digitally.  It's the highlight of the year.

The Annual Awards Celebration is a wonderful opportunity to invite guests and  MORE WOMEN LIKE YOU:  friends, family, and colleagues who are interested in learning more about Impact 100 and considering membership.  As always, absentee voting is available for those unable to attend; details below.  We hope ALL members will vote and exercise this membership opportunity.

In celebration of WOMEN LIKE YOU,

Clare Zlatic Blankemeyer

Grant Finalist Executive Summaries Available Online
This year, Impact 100 is very fortunate to have six Grant Finalists - all proposing very strong initiatives that will have a huge positive IMPACT on our 10-county area.  We encourage members to check out the  Grant  Finalists  and learn more about their funding requests via their Executive Summaries; carefully crafted by Impact 100 volunteers and reviewed by each Grant Finalist for accuracy and representation.

In addition, the  Impact 100  Executive Summaries of  each Grant  Finalist  are  posted in the  "Members Only"  section of our website;  2018  members have received a password to access this confidential information.  If you do not recall the password to access this,  you can contact our office at [email protected].

Thank you for helping us choose the grant recipients for 2018!

Women At The Table: Will You Pull Up a Chair?

Many social change movements like Impact 100 were created when women gathered around a kitchen table  (i.e. the violence against women movement). Those women listened, connected, and took action to create movements that have lasting impact and change. Interested in Impact 100 founder, Wendy Steele's reflection about "joining at the table" to launch this organization?  Click here.

In this similar spirit, Impact 100 has something to offer you: Kitchen Table Revival.   Kitchen Table Revival was created by an Impact 100 member** to revive, resurge, and reclaim a circle. Are you busy? Or working too much?  Long to connect to new people OR people you love but haven't found the time to rekindle your friendship?

What is Kitchen Table Revival?  Think: book club without having to read anything. Add in: a social change and personal transformation twist to live more fully.  Women Together.....Changing Lives.

Would you like to pull up a chair?
This three-part series will be held at Neal's Design Remodel
7770 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249
Time: 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Tuesdays (October 2, November 6, and December 4)

*These offerings are a series and build off of one another, please work to attend all three.  This will give you the best taste of this experience.

"Mission Moment:" SELF
2 015 Grant Recipient: SELF
Project Name: Build-Up Academy

The Impact 100 grant has provided SELF with the ability to expand and  provide a greater number of Butler County residents with much needed home repairs. Along with this, SELF has been able to double the capacity of the Build-Up Academy program. This program has provided their clients the opportunity to enhance their job skills which increases their ability to build a better life for themselves and their families. SELF continues to celebrate the success of the Build-Up Academy program in assisting clients in advancing their job skills and wage-earning capacity. One of the unexpected successes was being able to assist so many clients who are in recovery programs. In Christina's class (Build-Up 5) three graduates were recovering addicts; in the class after that (BU-6) 10 out of 14 graduates were in recovery. As her story below indicates, building self-image and confidence is as big a win as actually moving into a  construction job.

Excerpts from Christina's story as reported in SELF's Impact 100 Final Grant Report:

"Opiate addiction took away my life. So at this time last year I was lost. I had no idea how I was going to repair the damage that had been done. I'm lucky to have the support from my family but they also had no idea how to help me. I had the opportunity to move into a recovery house for women and children. I moved in there on Nov. 1st (2016). This place allowed us to be safe and it gave me the chance to start working on myself.

One of my counselors recommended the Getting Ahead Program through SELF.  She said it was an organization that helps low income families, but that's all she said. I decided to give it a try & this is where....."

Thanks to SELF for the hope and determination you inspire in people every day!

Who am I?
I am a recent retiree, who reluctantly left as head of public relations at Great Oaks Career Campuses after 21 years.  Only the desire to spend more time with my three children, their spouses and three grandchildren in LA could draw me away.  What has taken me by surprise is how much I am enjoying this opportunity to reflect on what I really want to do and then actually having the time to follow-through.  I'm devoted to the Great Oaks Education Foundation and the Center for Respite Care.  I've caught the Ancestry bug, actually like working out and admit being in awe of the movie and TV scene in LA.

What made me join Impact?
Kathy Thornton always has great ideas, and she felt I would enjoy being a part of Impact.  It turned out to be a great fit.  What an opportunity to work alongside smart, thoughtful women who contribute their time and money to support transformational change for individuals and communities.

What keeps me a member?
This year I had the time and chose to be a member of the Culture Focus Area Committee.  I quickly became engaged with other women in the intellectual process of selecting an application based on merit.  What engaged my heart was a site visit.  We met two women leading organizations that were transforming the lives of immigrant women and the surrounding community.  It was the same commitment to building self-sufficient individuals and communities that had drawn me to Great Oaks for so long.  I went home, sent in my commitment for 2019 and increased the amount.  Impact is an organization that is making a true difference and I want to be a part of it.  I look forward to another year of working with intelligent, compassionate women in transforming the lives of individuals, and Greater Cincinnati in the process.
