God's blessings and Happy Easter to all! Daylight is lingering, temperatures are warming, birds and other backyard creatures are venturing forth, and new growth is sprouting up.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (Palm 118:24).
Coming out of Holy Week and into a new month and season, we are renewed with hope as we gather with family and friends, go on spring vacations, plan new projects for our homes and gardens, move outdoors for spring sports, and begin the final quarter of the school year. Looking Back
The Palm Crosses & Crafts Day and Easter Egg Hunt last month was a big hit with the Sunday School children.
Many thanks to the parents, teachers, and youth who contributed items and helped during our event. It was good to see some new faces--we welcome all visitors and newcomers to join us again soon.

Sunday School Recruitment
CYM is recruiting volunteers to teach Sunday School class on a short-term (one-to-two month) rotation or to substitute for a teacher on occasional Sundays. Having more volunteers will allow Sunday School teachers to go on a vacation, carry out other commitments, or attend a full 10 am service.
A good Sunday School is essential to the vitality and future of any church, and teaching children and youth about God's love and the Christian way of life can be a deeply rewarding experience. But without some respite for spiritual renewal, teachers may experience burn-out.
If you feel God is calling you to be part of our Sunday School team, please contact Emily Sityar at [email protected]. All Sunday School volunteers will need to undergo Safe Church training and have a background check done. Thank you!

Calvary Clean-Up Day &
CYM Recycling Center Field Trip
Saturday, April 14 is 1 week before Earth Day. Here are 3 things we can do to celebrate our planet:
- Calvary Clean-Up Day: 9am - noon. Join the parish-wide clean up of Calvary's buildings and grounds.
- CYM field trip to Integrity Bottles & Cans Redemption Center (2790 Sheridan Drive, west of Niagara Falls Blvd.) We will leave from Calvary after the clean-up, a little after noon to see part of the recycling process in action. Please RSVP online here.
- Bring in your NY 5ยข refundable beverage bottles and cans for CYM's bottle drive. You can bring it directly to the recycling center during the field trip on April 14.
- Reduce waste in our landfills and oceans
- Save energy since recycled products use less energy to make
- Reduce pollution and global warming

Bishop's Visitation and Confirmation
The Bishop's Visitation falls on April 22 this year. Bishop Franklin will speak at our Children's Chapel. He will receive four adults and confirm four young people:
Ryan Bevilacqua,
Gregory Fiegel, Andrew
Scalfani-Cohen, and Shea Suffoletta. Please keep our confirmands in your prayers as they approach this important milestone in their Christian formation.
Calvary will have a Pot Luck Luncheon and reception following the 10 am service to honor these young people and welcome the bishop. Sign up in the reception room!

Baptism
We will welcome a child in Holy Baptism this month:
On Sunday April 15th, Autumn Lee Altieri will be baptized. Please join us in prayers and celebration for our newest member!

Looking Ahead
Calvary will host an intergenerational Ice Cream Social and Family Game Night from 7 - 8:30 pm on Friday, May 4th. Please come and bring the whole family- it will be free and fun for all!
The CYM committee will draft an outline of the 2018-2019 CYM program by June 2018 in order to plan a budget and secure dates for our events. In our May e-newsletter, we will be asking readers to submit feedback on what has/hasn't worked this year and what special events you would like CYM to offer for next year. So please start to consider what comments/suggestions you would like to share.

Acolytes
Acolytes actively assist the clergy in leading the worship of God. Acolytes often find their service not only fun, but also spiritually fulfilling. They learn to serve with dignity, humility, and care, always with the love of Christ. We welcome you to this ministry if you are in 4th grade or higher. We work with your schedule; it's not an "every Sunday" commitment, and you will get training and practice so that you will feel comfortable at the altar.

In April, the children will be learning the joyful hymn "This is the Day," based on Psalm 118:24.
We will also practice singing "This Little Light Of Mine," an old favorite, in preparation for Bishop's Franklin's visit on April 22.
The children and many adults enjoyed learning and then sharing with the congregation, the song "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man."
It was very lively and the lesson a meaningful one for the Lenten season. The wise man learns to build his/her life on the rock- the Lord Jesus Christ !

Greetings from the Primary class. Hopefully you all had a very Happy Easter with family and friends.
This month the Primary Class will wrap up our lessons about Jesus with 'The Road To Emmaus.'
I am very impressed with the children. We have had some great discussions about our topics and stories about Jesus, His life and teachings.
Our students really love doing the hands on crafts that go along with the lessons. They are a very creative crew.
The curriculum starts a new unit on April 15th. We will focus on the Book of Common Prayer. This is an introduction for children in grades first through third grade. We will discuss the way Episcopalians use the Book of Common Prayer.
Parents, when your children join you in church, show them the Book of Common Prayer. Let them leaf through the different sections to become more familiar with it. At Calvary, the entire prayer portion of the service is printed for us in the service leaflet. Many of the children in our class don't have any idea where these prayers come from because we don't pick up the Book of Common Prayer during the service.
As the month goes on we will talk about the different services included in the Book of Common Prayer. The children will learn that Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer and Compline are all in that red prayer book in our pews.

We hope that all of you have had a very blessed and a miraculous Holy Week! Our precious Savior, Jesus, is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
For the students who have not been able to attend classes on a regular basis, we will be giving them copies of the Community Times newspaper to take home to share with you as a family. The parables that we have been studying will be presented as the main article. In addition, other related articles will be offered. There will also be a Memory Challenge and an exercise for the students to complete.
Now that the Easter Season has begun, we will be looking at the major sacraments of the church as well as learning about the Catechism. (How fast the Church year has flown by!)

In March we studied the parables of Jesus. Due to some special events we did not get through all of them. I am going to finish them up and start on the next Unit which is Church Prayers/Catechism. We did a special Easter craft on Palm Sunday. If you missed out, you can complete one in April. I encourage all students if they are in church to come to class. It won't matter how small or large, there will be a lesson and some crafts or coloring activities. We've had some great Lessons this year, especially on the parables so you don't want to miss out.

Journeys at St. Luke's, Jamestown
The next Journeys Event for our Jr. High youth will be Friday April 20 - Saturday April 21 (7 pm to 3 pm) at St. Luke's in Jamestown.
Journeys underlying premise is that we are all on a spiritual journey and that in all journeys there are choices, bumps, smooth passages, dead ends, and unexpected surprises. Throughout the weekend, the youth will be able to explore various ways in which they might be able to "Find God". The adult leaders and high school age youth will share something that they do that brings them closer to God.
