Make sure to bring your children, grandchildren and cameras on Easter Sunday, April 1st, for the Annual Christ Church Easter Egg Hunt! It will begin at the conclusion of the 9:15 am worship services. (There will be no Sunday school or Kidurgy on Easter Sunday.)
The week after Easter, the Healing Service, X Church, music rehearsals and all studies that normally occur on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will not take place. The church office will also be closed on Monday, April 2nd; Tuesday, April 3rd; and Wednesday, April 4th. Have a blessed Easter holiday! |
I wrote the words below a few Holy Weeks ago, when I lived in a place that could see snow in the spring. It's not a first-person account, though it's written like one. Well, parts of it are probably true enough, but it's fiction overall. As I found myself gazing out the window, daydreaming about the steady march of days and moments, I remembered this and thought I might as well share it in the midst of this Holy Week when a new Rambling just isn't in the cards. I pray the next few days are indeed holy for you as we march closer to the cross and beyond.
He sat by the window with his coffee in his hands, one aged hand around the other, watching the snow. The contented sigh of the dog curled up at his feet could have been his own. His life hadn't turned out as he expected, but it had been good, nonetheless. He knows he's nearing the end. Genetics hold the key to just how close death is, but at his age, he knows he doesn't have too many winters left; but he doesn't let the mystery affect his sleep. If he were a younger man, he'd be out in the snow, just for the fun of it. There was a day when he enjoyed the silence of a snowstorm, the dampened sounds and the soft whisper of snow on snow. Today he was just as pleased to experience it from the warmth of the den.

Holy Week Worship Music |
|
From Kathleen Turner, Organist and Choirmaster
There are some pieces of music that warrant repetition. En Priere, a poem written by Stéphan Bordèse and set to music by French composer Gabrielle Faure, is one of them. The piece is from a collection of 30 Songs for Voice and Piano.
To quote tenor, Matthew Todd, "
Bordese's prayer of the 12-year-old Jesus is one of heartbreaking simplicity and Fauré sets it accordingly with tripleted arpeggios (depicting the Trinity), always ascending in supplication to Heaven. The chanson is not without its passionate moments as the music crescendos and the boy declares:
'auguste Roi des rois, Ô Lumière!' (great King of kings, oh light!)
Religious significance aside, few could fail to be moved when the triplets finally cease and the child's prayer concludes:
'Reveal Yourself to me, Lord, in whom I believe And hope: For you I would suffer and die on the Cross, On Calvary!'"
Throughout Holy Week this piece will be offered as a musical focus on our journey to Calvary. The piece is sung in French. Here is the translation:
If the voice of a child can reach you, O my Father, Listen to the prayer of Jesus on His knees before You. If You have chosen me to teach Your laws On the earth, I will know how to serve You, holy King of Kings, O Light! Place on my lips, O Lord, the salutary truth, So that whoever doubts should serve You with humility! Do not abandon me, give me the necessary gentleness, To alleviate pains, to relieve the suffering, the misery! Reveal Yourself to me, Lord, in Whom I have faith, and I hope, To suffer for You and die on the cross at Calvary!

Flowering of the Cross |
|
The flowering of the cross has become an Easter Day tradition at Christ Church. David Lowe and Chris Triplett begin the process by bedecking the cross outside the church entrance with spring flowers and invite the entire parish to bring blooms that they have purchased or cut in their yards to Easter Day services.
(Mr. MacGregor - aka David - will be there to assist, and he might even take a picture of you and your family as you celebrate this joyous day.) Don't forget your flower and your camera on Easter morning!

Jesus Christ Superstar |
|
The
Jesus Christ Superstar Holy Eucharist that took place on Palm Sunday, at Christ Church, was a deeply moving and inspiring service for the participants and the many faithful who attended. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to present this musical interpretation of the Passion. It truly set the tone for a meaningful Holy Week.

ECW Scholarship |
|
A newly established scholarship fund created by the Christ Church Frederica Episcopal Church Women is being inaugurated this year.
Annually, the Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women will provide $2,500 to a female high school graduate pursuing a degree through an academic or technical college or university. The student must be of the Episcopal faith and hale from Glynn or McIntosh County.
"Many of our Christ Church women have, over the last fifteen years, donated to this wonderful effort to establish a scholarship program for our young ladies. The fruit of our gifts will now benefit many young women with their future educational goals. In establishing this scholarship we honor those who came before us and saw this as just a dream... but now it is a reality and we could not be more pleased," noted Jane Watson, President, Episcopal Church Women.
Applications may be accessed via the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation website here
and are due no later than April 21, 2018. Candidates will be screened and interviewed by a scholarship committee and the award will be made in May.

Docents and Greeters Needed in Christ Church! |
|
Christ Church needs docents and greeters! As the team of volunteer docents has diminished over the last few months, due to illness and retirements, so have the number of days we are able to keep the church open to visitors.
Currently, we have a skeleton crew of volunteers to man the church Tuesday through Sunday in the afternoons. After March, we will definitely need some additional folks to help. You can assist by volunteering to docent once a month from 2 to 5 pm. There is a training session before docents embark on this wonderful opportunity to share the remarkable story of our church. Contact: Fred Collins at [email protected] to become a docent.
