Messages of appreciation from a grateful staff on Doctor's Day.
Graduate Medical Education at CMC

ECG Management Consultants has been engaged to guide CMC;s pursuit to establish Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at CMC.

Pictured above is a meeting comprised of physicians, hospital administration, Board members and representatives from the RWJBH/Rutgers integration team.  These representatives and others have met with ECG Management Consultants on several occasions and will continue this first phase of work over the next 3 months.

Findings from this first phase of work will then be utilized to develop work plans for the medical and surgical specialties selected for GME programs.  Establishing CMC as a teaching facility will benefit our community and Medical Staff in numerous ways - from enhancing quality through the use of innovative care plan models, to increasing our focus on research and impacting the education of future physicians.

We will keep you updated as we plan for the next chapter in CMC's history. By working collaboratively, we will build a stronger healthcare system for the Ocean County region.
Epilepsy Program Receives National Association of Epilepsy Centers Reaccreditation

The Epilepsy Program at the Jay and Linda Grunin Neuroscience Institute has once again earned accreditation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) as a Level 3 Epilepsy Center. Level 3 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy. This is the third consecutive period that the CMC program, led by Dr. Amor Mehta, Medical Director and Epileptologist, has earned this accreditation, and it continues to be the only accredited program in Ocean County.
Clinical Documentation Tip of the Month: "Functional Quadriplegia"

* Complete immobility due to severe physical/medical disability or frailty
* Not true paresis, it is the inability to move due to another condition
* Person functions as a quadriplegic without a spinal cord injury
* Severe dementia is the most common underlying cause
* This person may have pressure ulcers, contractures, and are considered "total care," "bedbound," "max assist" and need assistance with all ADL's

Functional Quadriplegia significantly impacts the patients severity of Illness (SOI) and risk of mortality (ROM). This diagnosis is considered a Major Co-morbidity and these patient's are resource intensive.
Patient Satisfaction

In the recently released Inpatient Prospective Payment System Final Rule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized their proposal to alter the current Pain Management domain on the HCAHPS survey.

The existing Pain Management domain section will be replaced with a new Communication About Pain domain and three new questions, as follows:

Current questions to be removed New questions to be added
