The Resurrection of Our Lord
Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter that begins Christ is Risen!!! No Foolin'!!! Today is Easter and it just happens to fall on April Fool’s Day this year. Paul Lutter makes the connection: “Through his death and resurrection for us, Jesus Christ is God’s foolish power on the loose among us. Our strength is toppled by his weakness. Our wisdom is toppled by his foolishness. And we are never the same again. We are made new. We are turned upside down for the sake of Christ, who dies and is raised from death for us. We are given new identities. Marked with the cross of this foolish Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit in the waters of baptism, we are made fools for Christ” (“Foolish Power,” Living Lutheran, April 1, 2011).

Food Pantry Team Serves One Last Serving
|
The LSS Food Pantries serve people in need by offering a source of nourishment to families who are food insecure. They enable families in
13 counties around Ohio to focus on other important aspects of life, like paying bills or finding employment by removing the immediate concern of hunger in a way that honors clients’ dignity, offers hope and makes nutritious food more readily available to families and individuals who need it.
It's a worthy endeavor. That's why we at Advent ELC have not only supported it with our donations, but also with our hands. For years we have been sending people to the Champion Ave. food pantry to serve on the third Saturday of every month. This past Saturday was the last time our volunteers would serve there as LSS is changing the model of food distribution, utilizing an online ordering system and area pantry distribution sites.
|
Change is a part of life and while LSS is making this change to be better stewards of the donations they receive while also striving to enhance client experiences, there was a moment of pause and a tug at the heart strings for those serving for the last time this past Saturday.
A BIG thank you to
Elaine Cooper
who has been a
CHAMPION
of the food pantry ministry at Advent ELC. Thank you to everyone who has spent a Saturday morning/afternoon at the pantry on a regular basis, or just one time.
Jesus said
in Matthew 10:42, “And if, as my representatives, you give even a cup of cold water to a little child, you will surely be rewarded.”
To all our Champion Pantry volunteers, on behalf of all of us in your family of faith, THANK YOU and well done, good and faithful servants.

FRIENDS HELPING FRIENDS HELPING FRIENDS
Our Confirmation Class talks often about how we can put God's love into action. Two students showed last week that they have learned this lesson well.
About a month ago Caden Layne contacted fellow Confirmation student, Will Rupert, with a favor to ask: Will you play some basketball with me for a good cause? The answer was, "You bet!"
Last Saturday the two teamed up with another friend, Seth Stetz, to give up a Saturday morning and early afternoon to play in a benefit 3x3 basketball tournament called
Hoops for Hope
.
The monies raised from the $100 team entry fees, raffles, and concessions went
to raise money to help support a former classmate of Caden's, Josh Brooks, and his family during his fight against leukemia.
Brooks', an 8th grader at Central College Christian Academy, felt tired and ill last October. After a few tests, the diagnosis came back - acute myeloid leukemia.
The toll that cancer takes is certainly physical, but it is also mental, emotional, spiritual and financial. To help with the latter, this tournament was put into action. After the day was done, $2,315 was raised and given to Josh's family to help with the enormous medical bills. It was estimated at the beginning of Josh's treatment, the monthly costs would be around $25,000 a month.
When asked what it meant to play in a tournament with his friends for his friend, Layne said, "It was nice to support [Josh] and at the same time have some fun. It was a good time, with good friends, for a good friend."
Thanks to Caden and Will for coming together to show the love of Christ to others!

Our Seminary Student Needs Help to go to Israel
|
Robert Eller, a first year seminary student at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University (TLS), has the opportunity of a lifetime to visit the Holy Land in January, 2019 with TLS, led by a renowned and leading Biblical scholar, Dr. Mark Allan Powell.
On this trip Robert would spend two weeks touring Israel, seeing important historical sites for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, walking in the footsteps of Jesus life from his birth, baptism, years of ministry and ultimately where he died on the cross. In addition, this class trip would teach Robert about the culture there today, as he would get to meet with NGOs doing humanitarian work, and see why the Holy Land remains to be the center of our faith world.
Please consider helping Robert offset the of this trip.
