An Exoskeleton for Children

The Spanish National Research Council recently released information on a new development to assist children with severe disabilities combat the degenerative functions of those disabilities and also allow them to walk. This is an exoskeleton which " is able to mimic human muscle movement, providing the necessary strength a child would need to stand and walk about on his or her own. And with its built-in sensors, the skeleton is able to detect and encourage leg movement."

Meet Our Clients!

April, 32, was thrown from a horse eleven years ago and sustained a spinal cord injury. April now lives with quadriplegia. Her accessible van broke down recently and April reached out to NAF for help. We were happy to get her out on the road again. She sent us this message
"Thank you so much for everything your foundation does in helping me and others like me"

Karlie , age 10, was born with caudal regression and is paralyzed. She lives with her mother and sister and until recently, her healthcare needs had been covered by Medicaid. She lost that assistance when her mother recently returned to the workforce. With the loss of benefits, Karlie's mother was unable to pay for her essential supplies, including catheters. NAF was very honored to step in and help for the next 3-4 months while her mother works on obtaining healthcare coverage for Karlie

Marcus, 44, was injured in 1990 at his cervical 5 vertebrae. He uses a power chair daily and recently his elevator and recline function broke on his chair. When those two functions break, the chair is no longer useful to Marcus because he can't transfer out of the cha ir and he can't release
pressure which leads to pressure sores. Marcus contacted NAF to ask for help and we were happy to get the chair back to him fully functional.  He sent us this message: "Thanks soooo much. I am forever grateful!"

Royce, age 75, suffered a spinal infarction and is now living with paraplegia. Unfortunately, Royce was going to go home from rehab to a house with stairs on the front and back. We were very honored to provide four ramps for his home to make the front and rear entrances accessible.

A Review on Hollywood
From The Eyes of A Young Paraplegic.

Perhaps, if you or someone you know, is living with a disability you thought of going to see the new hit romance, Me Before You.

The romance includes a young handsome man and his new life once sustaining a spinal cord injury. Many have given their response to the film, including a young woman who responded to Hollywood with the question, "Why do you want to kill me?" and further explains to the reader that the films they produce send a strong message that a life with a disability is not a life worth living. You can read her letter in full  here. The writer challenges Hollywood to veer away from political correctness and the fear that drives them to promote a message that gauges the value of life on the opinions of others.

We Need Your Help

Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer

Change lives; make a difference.

Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.

Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.

Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.

Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.

No donation is too small. Click here for information.
