Nutrition Class 
 
On Monday, April 2 at 7pm the library will offer a nutrition class as part of a series on healthy lifestyle options. Healthy habits being pushed to the wayside because of a busy lifestyle? Having trouble finding nutritious snacks for the picky eater in your life? Wondering what's really in the food you've been eating?  All these questions and more will be answered during a special nutrition class at Dover Public Library taught by Lauren Williams, a Registered Dietetic Technician at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Meditation Class

On
Tuesday, April 3 at 7pm Jacqueline Finnerty will share her love of meditation in a free class at Dover Public Library. Finnerty is the creator of Blissful Soul Studio and is a meditation instructor at Serenity Spa & Salon in Dover. The class is an introduction to meditation and will talk about the benefits, different techniques, and tips on how to practice on your own. Finnerty will also walk attendees through a 30-minute meditation using breathing techniques and guided imagery.
 

Women's Self-Defense Class
 
Learn the basic skills necessary to empower and protect yourself in a Women's Self-Defense class held at Dover Public Library on Wednesday, April 4 at 7 pm. Previously taught in December, Women's Self-Defense is back by popular demand. Taught by instructors Peter Hebert and Zoila Urbani of Great Bay Karate in Dover, the class will explore the different basic self-defense techniques including simple strikes and movements that could save your life, all taught in a safe, positive environment.
 
Friends of the Library Cultural Program

The Friends of the Dover Public Library are delighted to present the one-man show, "A Search for Justice", featuring actor Stephen Collins, on Monday, April 9 at 7pm. In this performance piece, the audience will hear the words of Abolitionist editor William Lloyd Garrison, and John Brown will tell you why he resorted to violence. Abraham Lincoln will deliver his oration at Gettysburg, and Thomas Hardy and other writers will comment on war and religion
 
Adult Spelling Bee

On Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30pm teams of up to four people are invited to challenge others in a spell-off. Single participants can join others to form a team. The last two teams standing will have a spell-off and the winner will receive a prize. For a full set of rules, visit the library's website at library.dover.nh.gov. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Friends of the Library Cultural Event    
 
On Tuesday, April 17 at 7pm Stephen Hale of Open World Explorers will give a presentation designed as a virtual tour on a regular hiking trail in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  The virtual tour documents both common and uncommon birds beginning in the low lying valleys with intermittent streams, ponds, and wetlands within a setting of northern hardwoods forest.  The tour progresses through mixed forest with increasing fir and spruce community birds until reaching the uppermost boreal forest zone, which hosts a distinctive assemblage of birds reserved for the most hearty hikers.  This presentation is also set up as a bird quiz to allow you to test your bird ID skills, with pointers readily available for assistance.
16th Annual Poetry Contest  
 
The Dover Public Library is pleased to announce the 16th Annual Dover Public Library Poetry contest for grades K-12.  Prizes will be awarded in six different categories:  Grades K-2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, and 11 &12.  Poems will be judged on originality, style and creativity.  Deadline for entry is April 17th. Students may pick up information about the contest at the Dover Public Library, any Dover school library, or at our website at library.dover.nh.gov.  All participants are invited to attend an "Evening of Poetry" on Monday, May 21st at 6:30pm. Free Yoga for Adults

Have you ever thought you might want to try a yoga class to see if it might be something you'd like? Sign up for a free yoga class for adults on Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30pm. The class will be suitable for all ages and abilities. Please wear comfortable clothing. Register online through the events calendar to claim a spot.
Harry Potter Escape Room

Kids in grades 5 and up are invited to join us on Friday, April 27 at 2pm or 3pm for our exclusive Harry Potter themed escape
room! Costumes encouraged and

Harry Potter Day Planning

Game Night

Monthly Game Night continues on the 3rd Wednesday of the month which is Wednesday, April 18th at 6pm. Board game fun for all ages!

Knitting Group
 
On Monday, April 9 from 6 - 8pm the  knitting group will meet in the Trustees Room. This group is open to anyone who has a love for knitting and crocheting.  All levels are welcome! Please bring your precious works-in-progress and any finished objects you would like to show off to the group.
 
Second Wednesday Movie
    
The Second Wednesday Movie for April will be The Greatest Showman showing on April 11 at 6:30pm. The musical story of P.T. Barnum starring Hugh Jackman and rated PG.
 
Artist of the Month
 
Our Artist for the month of April is Rebecca Harrison. She will be displaying paintings, prints and more. Stop by to see her work in the Reference Room.

The Morning Book Group will discuss the book In the Garden of Beasts by Eric Larson on Thursday, April 5 at 10am.
