Happy President's Day!

Did you know that President's day used to be celebrated on Feb 22nd in honor of George Washington's birthday? According to  History.com, it was later moved to the third Monday of the month as part of the 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act.  Speaking of George, here is one of his quotes:

In addition to the awards, we will have association and industry updates, as well as Chuck Gallagher as our keynote speaker.

Scholarship Application Deadline Ahead

The deadline to submit your  Scholarship Award Application  is March 1st.  Two scholarships (one each for Operator and Allied Members) will be presented at the October 15th Fall Association Luncheon.

Free Ticket Home For Runaway Kids

Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) Announces Harriet Tubman Award

TAT (Truckers Against Trafficking) gives an annual award to a member of the trucking or bus industry who has made a direct impact on the recovery of a trafficking victim or in the prevention of trafficking. NJ Coalition Build September 26, 2019 Report

The New Jersey Coalition Build held on September 26, 2019, was an excellent opportunity to reconnect with industry partners in New Jersey, such as the New Jersey Motor Transport Association and the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General, as well as connect with new industry associations and companies, such as the Association of Bi State Carriers and the Greater New Jersey Motor Coach Association.  Read the full report.

FMCSA Extends Compliance Date for Entry-Level Driver Training Rule

FMCSA is amending its December 8, 2016, final rule, "Minimum Training Requirements for Entry-Level Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators" (ELDT final rule), by extending the compliance date for the rule from February 7, 2020, to February 7, 2022.  Read more...

When hiring a commercial driver's license (CDL) driver, employers must now conduct a pre-employment query. This query checks to see if there is any violation information reported to the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse associated with that driver's CDL information.   Read more...
UMA Announces Leadership Transition

President and CEO Stacy Tetschner will leave the United Motorcoach Association on March 6, 2020, to become the President and CEO of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA). Joining UMA as Interim President and CEO is Larry Killingsworth, an industry veteran who has extensive success working with motorcoach operators and manufacturers in the U.S. and Canada for more than 15 years.  Read more...
Landowners May Delegate Snow Removal Duties on Commercial Property to Tenants

The Supreme Court of New Jersey issued its opinion in Shields v. Ramslee Motors and 608 Tonnelle Avenues, LLC, holding that an owner of a commercial property does not owe its tenant's invitees a duty to remove snow and ice from a driveway on that property when the commercial tenant maintained exclusive possession and control of the property.  Read more...
