Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

Winder-Barrow High School FCCLA members attended the Georgia Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference at The Sheraton Atlanta and AmericasMart. Students "Channeled Their Inner Leaders" by attending general sessions, workshops and competing in different competitive events.

Congratulations to Ka'Jalene Kirkland for earning a gold medal and advancing to the National competition in June!
Taylor Gray, Jahmeria Young, and Michaela Stevens also won big with 3 silver medals!!

"These students are truly the face of the future. They competed in activities that showcased not only their knowledge, but their leadership skills," said Advisor Christie Glaze. "I am very proud of these students for their hard work and preparation."

In more FCCLA news, Russell Middle School eighth grade student Lannise Litton and seventh grade student Madison Day competed in the Illustrated Talk category of STAR Events while at the State Leadership Conference. They earned a gold medal with their project titled Cutting Pollution One Disc at a Time. They will be moving on to compete at the National Leadership Conference this summer in Atlanta.

Gold Chapter of Excellence

The Apalachee SkillsUSA Chapter earned the Gold Chapter of Excellence status. Only 8 chapters in the state earned this level! A lot of effort and documentation are required by the students and advisor as part of this recognition. Amanda Pugh is the lead SkillsUSA advisor.

This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Apalachee local chapter. Officers hosted an alumni event in December. They are currently planning an alumni event to include administrators, business and industry at the Awards Banquet in May.

Chapter Members were able to apply their knowledge of skills and recognize the importance of our local Firefighters and Paramedics.
