TSC Spring 2018 Paper Clover Pizza Party Incentive
The Tractor Supply Company's annual 4-H Paper Clover Campaign is April 11-22, 2018. Purchase a paper clover for $1 at the checkout at the Romeo or New Haven Tractor Supply Company (TSC) locations to benefit Macomb County 4-H programs. Funds will be used as scholarships to send members to 4-H camps or leadership experiences.

Club members and volunteers are encouraged to participate at either location and will be entered for a chance to win one of two pizza parties.
  • Two pizza parties, one per Macomb County TSC store, will be awarded for the Spring 2018 Paper Clover event for two 4-H clubs who participate in the event
  • The winners will be drawn at random, using a ticket system. Each store will have a separate ticket bucket
  • The system works like this:
    • Each 4-H club that promotes 4-H, recruits or fundraises at a Macomb County TSC store during the Paper Clover event (April 11-22, 2018) gets one ticket entered into the drawing.
    • Clubs receive additional tickets for every hour they are there (two hours = two tickets, three hours = three tickets, and so on).
    • If your 4-H club turns in a count of how many people they spoke to about 4-H, or a count of how many people they got to donate to 4-H, they receive another ticket. Clubs may use a clicker or tally amount.
    • If your club turns in an "I'm interested in learning more about 4-H" sheet that has contact information for potential 4-H families, you receive another ticket.
  • One club from each store will be drawn. The same club cannot win twice, but may participate in both Macomb County locations to increase the odds of winning.
  • Clubs may hold as many Paper Clover events as they wish during the Paper Clover Campaign and are eligible for the described amount of tickets at each event.
For more information about ways that you and your club can participate in the TSC Paper Clover Campaign and be entered into the drawing for a pizza party, contact 4-H Program Coordinator Seth Martin at 586-783-8163 or [email protected].

Spring 4-H Club Leader Meet
The Spring 4-H Club Leader meet took place Thursday, March 15th. It was a packed house as 4-H staff, club leaders and fair liaisons came together to share information.

Macomb County Teen Counselor Program

Asha Stevens
Meet Asha Stevens! The Macomb County Teen Counselor Program kicked off this weekend with its first training of the season, and Asha was, of course, there. Asha has been volunteering as a Teen Counselor for over three years.
In fact, Asha volunteered with the very first 4-H Day Camp held at the Max Thompson Family Resource Center and has since volunteered for every single camp that has been held there.

The Day Camps are week-long events where participants meet daily from
9 a.m.-5 p.m. It is safe to say that Asha has given hundreds of hours of community service towards Macomb County 4-H programs. She has grown in her role and is now considered a Lead Teen Counselor who mentors others as they join the fold.

As Asha and her fellow Teen Counselors became more and more involved and knowledgeable about 4-H, they decided to form their own 4-H Club. The All About 4-H Club was born. The members picked the name because it describes what they feel they are doing: teaching about 4-H and bringing youth from the southwest corner of the county to 4-H. Over the years, Asha has expanded her experience to include volunteering at the Armada Fair, attending statewide events at both Kettenun Center and East Lansing.

Teen Counselor and 4-H Day Camp, two very small programs that started three years ago, have grown into successful and flourishing programs. MSU Extension had four teen counselors that first year. Now, there are 28 enrolled so far. Our camp is reaching its peak enrollment as well. The Teen Counselor program is open to all Macomb County teens from grades 9-12. Any 4-H club member who would like to volunteer for an hour, a day or a week is invited. It could be as simple as sharing your favorite project with the campers.

Michigan 4-H Text, Talk, Revive Civility Challenge

Every day, 4-H'ers are rolling up their sleeves in service as they lead positive change that empowers their peers and their communities. 4-H members are not afraid of a challenge, and in fact, they are known to seek out challenges they can help solve with their knowledge, leadership skills and fierce resolve.

This April, Michigan 4-H members are challenged to take on one of the most significant and widespread problems currently facing our nation: incivility. 4-H members can help revive civility across the state by taking the Michigan 4-H Text, Talk, Revive Civility Challenge.

The challenge helps youth engage their families, peers and communities in conversation around civil dialogue while doing something they are already
experts at: talking and texting! Taking part is just three simple steps: first, organize a group of three to five individuals and text CIVILITY to 89800. Next, with help from a series of text messages, have a one-hour conversation about civility to learn what it is, the importance of it, and how to incorporate it into everyday life. After learning about civility, take a picture of your group and post is on social media to keep the challenge going!

The Michigan 4-H Text, Talk, Revive Civility Challenge is part MSU Extension's celebration of the True Leaders in Service initiative. To learn more about True Leaders in service or to register your civility conversation as a service project, visit www.4-H.org/true-leaders-in-service .
