First, let's consider the difference between Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam . Tzedakah translates to "justice" and implies donating charity to make life more equal for all. So giving tzedakah may be seen as one form of tikkun olam .

At TBANS, we collect tzedakah each Friday, but rather than giving money directly to an individual or organization, we use the funds to engage children in tikkun olam . We do projects that make the world a better place. Children more readily understand the concrete act of giving something that makes another feel better. So whether it's blankets for a dog shelter, food for the hungry, or books for disadvantaged schools, TBANS children are given many opportunities to think about how their actions can make life happier, healthier, and more meaningful for others.
