Wednesday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m.Movie Matinee. Ferdinand (PG). All ages. It's an early dismissal for teacher conferences so we're showing this hot new release. Parents who have KCS Parent/Teacher conferences may leave their children in the care of the Children's librarians with prior notification. You must register with the time of your conferences. Otherwise, not a drop off. Please register.
Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. Afterschool Science Buddies. Younger kids will be paired up with older TAB kids to have an awesome afternoon experimenting with science and playing games. Please register. Not a drop off for kids under 10, parents must stay in the building but do not need to be part of the program.
Monday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. STEAM Program. For grades 3 and up - Come test your engineering skills with a creative challenge. Not a drop off for kids under 12. Please register.

Saturday, April 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Henna Workshop. The Kent Memorial Library is happy to present a series of workshops on the ancient art of henna. Henna is an ancient form of temporary body art used by cultures across India, northern Africa and the Middle East. Join henna artist Elyse Sadtler for a how-to henna classes to learn how to draw beautiful henna designs on yourself, family and friends. Participants will receive their own henna cone to practice with during the class. Cost for each participant is $20 per class. Henna supplies will be available for sale after the class for those who wish to further their henna journey. Call the Library for more information.

 Saturday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. Timely Topics in Healthcare: Parents As Heroes, Supporting Children Through Medical Encounters presented by Deborah Vilas, MS, CCLS, LMSW, Child Life Coach. Studies show that children who are prepared for medical procedures recover faster with less emotional stress. Even routine procedures such as vaccinations can cause children undue stress and lead to avoidance of medical care. Come learn about simple things that you can do to lessen your child's anxiety and support them through any medical encounter. Sunday, April 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Vietnam War - Lynn Novick. The Kent Memorial Library invites you to attend a very special afternoon with one of the country's most accomplished documentary filmmakers, Lynn Novick, co-director with Ken Burns of the landmark PBS documentary series, The Vietnam War. Novick will share selected scenes and discuss the challenges of making the epic film as well as the response to it around the country and the world. The Vietnam War books & DVDs will be available to pre-purchase (please order by April 10, 2018) only when registering at the Library or online. Book: $60 & DVD: $99.95. Ms. Novick will be happy to sign them. Please indicate the number of book(s) and/or DVD(s) you plan to purchase and you can pick them up at the presentation.

PASSPORT TO CONNECTICUT LIBRARIES
The Kent Memorial Library will once again be participating in the Passport to Connecticut Libraries program this April. Libraries all across the State are taking part in this exciting program to make people of all ages aware of the power of their library card. Take your library card and passport to at least five libraries on the list to be eligible to win a $150 gift card for adults or a $100 gift card for children! Passports must be turned in to any participating library by May 7. Library Week
April 8 - 14 

As libraries in com munities, schools, and campuses nationwide celebrate National Library Week, so too, will the Kent Memorial Library, April 8 - 14. This will be a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians, library workers and most importantly, patrons. During the week in April, Kent Memorial Library has plenty to offer the community.

Every time you come to see what KML has to offer you can take a chance and win a Bag of Swag! For all ages. (1 chance per day).
   
APRIL IS AMNESTY MONTH!
As spring approaches, the Library will celebrate by forgiving all library fines during April: Amnesty Month. If you have "lost" items or overdue books, your fines will be forgiven if you return the items with a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Kent Food Bank.

Saturday, May 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Louisa May Alcott Dinner Theatre. Join us for a dinner entertainment, Love from Louisa; Louisa May Alcott and the making of Little Women , at the Fife 'n Drum Restaurant on 53 Main Street in Kent to benefit the Library. A themed dinner at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by a staged reading in costume that will feature appearances by Louisa, her father Bronson Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Thoreau -- all in their own words. The dramatic presentation, which will trace the influences that led the author to the creation of the classic story of Little Women, was written and compiled by Georgianne Ensign Kent, and is directed by Jane Farnol. $60.00 per person. Seating is limited.

Congratulations Jackie Matson
An avid reader, Jackie is a frequent visitor to the Library.
She estimates that she reads 3 books a week and that adds up! The contest began on January 3 and she entered 80 tickets! That means she read around 27 a month!!!!!!!

Jackie won the Winter Reading Program for Adults Contest . All adults were invited to warm up with a good book this winter and win a chance at a book bag filled with items to keep them warm and toasty! Adults filled out a ticket for each book they read or listen to (including eBooks). The winning ticket was drawn on Wednesday, March 28 .

The total number of patrons participating in this contest was 33. The total number of books read was 158.

Chess. Our chess boards and tables, inside and out are open to young and old, beginners to advanced. Team combinations are encouraged - for instance, grandparent and parent-child, co-workers, friends. All are welcome to use our chess equipment.
 
Kent Library Association Membership. For more information about joining the Kent Library Association, please ask at the front desk or go to the Library's website and click on "KLA Membership." Join or renew your KLA membership online. There are many benefits to becoming a KLA member.
