New Sunday Drop In Program at Chai Lifeline provides much needed respite to families in crisis.

Since January, we've had the opportunity to run a Sunday Drop-in Program twice a month. This 2-hour program is held in our play room at the Chai Lifeline office, where the kids play in the play house, participate in different art activities, play video games, and do many other fun things with our amazing volunteers. We alternate inviting Chai kids and/or their siblings one week with PHH children who are young children who have a seriously ill parent at home the next. This program provides respite for the parents and a morning of fun for the kids. We look forward to doing it again in the future!
Montreal - Celebrating milestones, volunteers and family.

Our team, famlies and community are all truly each blessed to have one another to lean on. Here are just a snap shots of the fun and celebrations we accomplished thanks to you.
  • For Chai Lifeline warrior, Emily's, 8th birthday we threw her a "Frozen" themed bash - complete with a real-life Princess Elsa and Olaf!
  • Our first ever Bowl4Chai fundraiser was a resounding success. Everyone; friends and family, adults and kids, had a blast bowling while raising an incredible $48,000 in support of our warriors and in loving memory of Dr. Matthew Morton.
  • Painting, Video Games, Pizza, Ice Cream, Drum Circles and, of course, SLIME! When the holidays are busy at home and families are affected with an illness, Chai Lifeline steps in providing programs like The Pre-Pesach Program which gave their parents the opportunity to cook, clean and prepare for the holiday.
  • Dodge-Bow Volunteer Appreciation - What better way is there to show our volunteers how much we appreciate them than by taking them to Dodge-Bow. Over 40 people came out for an evening of dodging & fun!
Toronto Volunteer Spotlight - Leeatte Frisch Israel

Leeatte has been volunteering with Chai Lifeline for almost three years, and in that time has been a true lifeline for so many of our families. She first started as a 'big sister' for one of our teenage girls with special needs. She would plan the most creative, imaginative activities that accommodated her little sister's restrictions and capabilities. Leeatte never missed a week. She showed up at her house each and every week, filled with genuine excitement to spend time with her little sis. She continued visiting with her little sister for two years. During that time, she pitched in in so many other ways, helping other families in crisis in whatever way the needed, coming out to our holiday events, life guarding at our cottage day event, and more.

Upon Leeatte' s return home from a few months away in Israel, she called us the day she landed to see how she can get involved again. We connected  her with a young teenager dealing with chronic illness. This volunteer opportunity presented a different set of challenges, and she surpassed our expectations yet again.

"Being a Chai Lifeline volunteer means getting an opportunity to help make a difference in people's lives, no matter how small. I've been a 'big sis' for about two years and together we've enjoyed going swimming, doing art projects and making sushi. Spending time with my 'little sibs' has taught me to be compassionate, patient and caring. Chai Lifeline is an amazing organization that helps people in need and volunteering is a great way to give back to the community. Thank you Chai Lifeline and all other volunteers for making this possible!"

Thank you Leeatte for your commitment to Chai Lifeline, we know you have inspired many others to get involved through being such an exemplary volunteer!
Volunteers Spreading Sunshine

The volunteers at Chai Lifeline have been going above and beyond these past few weeks!
Starting with our Purim Carnival, and followed by Purim day itself, our Big Brothers and Sisters dressed up in costume and delivered mishloach manos to their little siblings all over the city, bringing their signature Chai Lifeline spirit to the holiday! Others spent a few hours at Sick Kids giving parents the chance to enjoy the holiday with their families at home. This past week,  many of our volunteers pitched in to help with our 'Restoring Hope' event at Roy Thomson Hall. Some helped manage the tickets and registration, while others spent over four hours behind stage with a group of Chai warriors, entertaining them while they waited for their on stage debut.

With many of our families home from school for the holidays, our volunteers have been hard at work helping families with grocery shopping, entertaining siblings, and taking shifts at the hospital to give moms a chance to prepare for Passover. Never a dull moment at Chai!

Wishing you and yours a Chag Sameach,
