School Refusal: Warning Signs and Intervention Strategies

Webinar with Ryan Ruth Conway & Rebecca Girard

April 13, 2018
1:00 - 2:30 pm
Cost: $25
School refusal, including school phobia and school anxiety, is an increasingly prevalent yet often misunderstood condition. A child who refuses to go to school creates a crisis at home and a challenge for the school. The longer the child is at home, the less likely he or she will return to school. Join Dr. Ryan Conway and Rebecca Girard to learn about the warning signs of school refusal and what you can do to help students on the autism spectrum who demonstrate these behaviors. This webinar is open to parents of all age children.

School refusal: Dr. Ryan Ruth Conway is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the delivery of evidence-based treatments to children and adolescents. She utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavioral interventions for youth who struggle with anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Conway has a passion for working collaboratively with parents, schools and other professionals. She recently founded NESCA’s Back to School (BTS) program, an intensive treatment for school-refusing students.

Rebecca Girard, LICSW, CAS is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in neurodivergent issues, sexual trauma, and international social work. She has worked primarily with children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families for over a decade. She is also one of the original founders of The Spotlight Program, a drama-based curriculum that teaches social skills to children with ASD.
