Congratulations to Texan basketball team on a great, historic season

Congratulations to the Northwest High School boys basketball team on a tremendous season! While the team didn't get the finish it hoped for, it still walked away with silver medals for a state runner-up finish, capping off a historic season.

The Texans fell to Port Arthur Memorial 69-75 in the UIL 5A Boys Basketball State Championship on March 10. The game was close for its duration, with the Texans leading most of the way before coming up just short in the fourth quarter. Despite the loss, the Texans finished the best basketball season in Northwest ISD history, as no other district team has ever reached the state title game.

Great season, Texans! The future remains bright, with the Texans returning the majority of their team, including three starters.
Middle school attendance boundaries for 2018-19 approved

Northwest ISD trustees voted to approve next year's attendance boundaries for middle schools following additional feedback regarding the proposed zones.

The approved boundaries include a zone for Adams Middle School, which is scheduled to open in August, as well as adjustments for the Chisholm Trail, Tidwell and Wilson middle school zones. The recommendation from the attendance boundary committee was first presented to the school board on Feb. 12. Following community feedback and additional boundary studies, the district recommended remaining with the original proposal.

The district will soon begin contacting families affected by rezoning with a letter, and campus communication will also begin soon.
For those interested in applying for a transfer to another Northwest ISD school, the district's transfer window will open April 1. As part of the district's mission, we partner with parents and community members to provide all students with a premier education. Schools within the district share the same class sizes, standard curricula and similar facilities. The same opportunities (such as athletics and fine arts) are also provided to students; the only differences are clubs and organizations, which are formed based on student interest and created at a campus level.

To see maps of the approved middle school boundaries, click here. In this map, Chisholm Trail is in purple at the top left, Pike is in light tan in the top middle, Medlin is in gold in the far right, Tidwell is in green in the bottom right, Wilson is in red in the bottom middle and Adams is in blue in the bottom left.
Current students help district design its future elementary schools
A rendering of Northwest ISD_s new prototype elementary school

Elementary schools are places where memories that can last forever are made, and Northwest ISD is in the process of designing a new set of schools - thanks to the help of current students - to make those memories focused on collaboration with others.

To design the district's newest elementary schools, Northwest ISD facilities team members and the district's architect partner, Huckabee, reached out to the exact people who will get the most use out of them: students. Students across the district, particularly at the elementary level, provided their ideas on what worked best in a school's design, with all feedback considered, no matter how minor.

FFA students host schools from across the state for career development events
Northwest ISD FFA students pose as they prepare to judge students in career development events

Great work by Northwest ISD's FFA students for leading the career development events competition at the Outdoor Learning Center on Wednesday!

Students created, set up and judged all the events, which meant preparing for more than 1,200 students from across the state. They stayed late the night before to set up events, then spent the day judging their peers across a variety of subjects.

FFA career development events cover job skills in a range of fields, such as agricultural sales, floriculture, animal evaluations and much more.
