Warrior Chorus Project Comes to Wesleyan on February 7

Local veterans and current service members will read from ancient tales of war and share their own military experiences as part of a “Warrior Chorus” performance on Friday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Virginia Wesleyan's Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The performance is directed by Peter Meineck, a former British Royal Marine and a professor at New York University, who began the theater program for veterans and holds performances around the country. The show will include 40 minutes of staged readings and will be followed by discussion.

Variations: Opera for Here & Now

Virginia Opera, the official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, presents VARIATIONS: Opera for Here & Now, a semi-staged concert performance. Select scenes from 20th & 21st century operas will be performed performed by VO singers, including operas by Jake Heggie, André Previn, Stephen Sondheim, Gregory Spears, Evan Mack, and John Musto.
Shelby Rhoades, Principal Coach and Director of Emerging Artists, will accompany, Kyle Lang (main stage director for

Pianist and mathematician Michael Manning explores how music reflects mathematics, how mathematics can be used to study music, and the deeper similarities of these two abstract intellectual frameworks. Manning earned advanced degrees in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and in Music from Yale University with an eclectic professional life encompassing academia, journalism, scientific research, software engineering, and performance. The VWU Theatre Department's spring production based on Menander's ancient Greek comedy, adapted for modern stage by Dr. Travis Malone. When a soldier's broken shield is found in battle, all presume the worst. Greedy relatives lay claim to the soldier's estate, and with lovers separated and fortunes taken, it falls to the soldier's servant to set everything right .The servant's brilliant plan and a surprise reunion help the survivors discover laughter, love, and hope in the aftermath of war, revealed in this daring new adaptation.
