A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
|
|
Greetings from Jim Morton - CFCC President
|
|
It's not officially spring, but this season has brought a new life to campus. With a substantial increase in enrollment and the calendar full of fun activities for students and the community, CFCC is bustling with activity.
This month, individuals in our athletics department and Small Business Center were applauded by our community as notable coaches and connectors; we had yet another successful public safety college—welcoming firefighters-in-training from across the state; local organizations supported our students with scholarships and tools to set them up for their jobs, and much more that we’re excited to share with you.
February’s forecast looks just as promising with an international film festival, exceptional
Wilson Center performances, and exciting news underway.

Southport Wooden Boat Show Supports CFCC Wooden Boat Building Students
January 29, 2020
|
|
The CFCC Foundation recently received a $3,000 donation from the organizers of the Southport Wooden Boat Show to fund an annual scholarship for students in CFCC’s Wooden Boat Building program.
The scholarship is funded from the proceeds of the group’s annual boat show, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. Each year the show is held at Southport’s historic Old Yacht Basin and showcases boats on-land and in-water. Visitors get to talk with wooden boat builders/owners and vote for their favorite boat entrant in the People's Choice Award.
The Southport Wooden Boat Show has supported CFCC students since the scholarship’s establishment in 2014. To date, the group has donated $15,000.
“The Southport Wooden Boat Show donation has benefitted so many of our boat building students over the years, and we are again very fortunate to receive this generous donation. Investments like this go a long way. We look forward to seeing our students get into the boat building industry and do great things.”
—Mark Council, CFCC Dean of Career and Technical Education

The Down East Chapter of the North Carolina Transportation Council recently awarded tools and scholarship money to six CFCC students in the diesel and heavy equipment technology program. The tools and monetary donations to these six students were valued at $2,500.
The “Tools for Tech” initiative supports students entering their chosen field by equipping them with scholarships, quality tools, and equipment donations needed to perform their jobs after graduation.
