St. Michael's Academy
  :

Good afternoon to all.  I'm sure the students are glad that we have completed our IOWA testing.  It's always a nice feeling to put them behind us for another year.

Next week, we will be entering Holy Week. I encourage you to talk with your child about the significance of these days leading up to Easter Sunday.   As previously mentioned, our 8th grade students will be performing "The Living Stations of the Cross" on Wednesday, March 28th. The first performance will take place at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Church with a repeat performance at 2 p.m.  This is a great way to prepare for Easter and we invite you to join us for this powerful event.

The following day is Holy Thursday and except for the resurrection on Easter, Holy Thursday is possibly one of the most important and profound days of celebration in the Catholic Church. Holy Thursday celebrates Jesus's Last Supper with his apostles and the Washing of the Feet signifying that we are meant to serve others.  At the conclusion of Mass, the altar is stripped and the tabernacle is emptied and brought to a place of repose for adoration. Attending Mass on Holy Thursday is a great educational opportunity for your child and will deepen their understanding of the Easter season.

I hope everyone enjoys a nice weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From the Office of Ms. Indomenico - School Counselor

Meet Ms. Indomenico

Hello!   My name is Sarah Indomenico and I am so excited to join St. Michael's Academy as the new school counselor! I am currently completing my final semester as a graduate student at Westfield State University and have had many years' experience counseling children and adolescents both in school and in outpatient/in-home therapy settings. I am thrilled to be able to bring my knowledge of the field into my work here at St. Michael's.

As the school counselor, I am here to provide all students with social, emotional, and behavioral support and refer families to outside resources as needed. I will work alongside parents, teachers, and administrators to provide students with a safe, nurturing environment in which they can succeed academically.

I am currently developing a schedule to meet with students individually. Please reach out to me if you feel this is something that you are interested in for your child if they had not already been seeing Mrs. Freeman previously. I also plan to offer group counseling to students as needed, so there will be more information on that to come!   As of now, I am in my office part-time, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and 8 a.m. -12 p.m. on Tuesdays. Come May 1st, I will be transitioning to full time and will be here full days Monday-Friday.

I am looking forward to working with you and your children and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at ext. 1005.

Have a great week!
Ms. Indomenico

Stations of the Cross

Thank you to our 4th grade students who led us in praying the Stations of the Cross today.

School Mass

Feast of St. Joseph

Thank you to Fr. Matt Alcombright from Mary Mother of Hope Parish for celebrating Mass with us.

Thank you to our 5th grade students for hosting the Mass and for a very  special presentation of the song "Gentle St. Joseph" which was written by Sr. Sally Marsh, SSJ.  The students sang while using sign language and were accompanied by several students playing their recorders.   It was a beautiful. A special thank you to Fr. Matt for teaching the students the song and sign language, Mrs. Senecal for helping them to practice and to Mrs. Duplessis for helping the students with the music .

New Spirit

  Grade 8 New Spirit Retreat

Our 8th grade students were lucky enough to spend a day this week on a New Spirit retreat. During a retreat day, the goal  is to create an environment which accepts and celebrates all young people and enables them to enjoy a positive faith experience. Through this experience, they are invited to be in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our thanks to Pat Sears, co-leader of New Spirit, who facilitated this retreat. Mr. Sears and his wife Carolyn, have sent all five of their boys to St. Michael's Academy. Three sons have graduated and two sons currently attend.
