February Transition Journey Update
A group of Unity EC members, Board members, those in a leadership role and those   looking to become more involved here at Unity Eau Claire were invited to attend an  interactive workshop facilitated by Rev. Greg Coles, our Unity Regional Representative,  on January 25, 2020. Entitled Growing through Change, this workshop came about   because our Board of Trustees was looking for a way to support our members during this  transition period of having a minister, to not having a minister.

As part of this workshop Rev. Greg Coles facilitated:
  • The Empowerment Dynamic, which is learning to shift from reacting to choosing our response to life events. This moves us from drama to empowerment.
  • Developing a Collaborative Agreement to make sure every voice was heard at the workshop.
  • He encouraged us as individuals to consciously see our history and unfold our own story which will lead us to develop a more informed and intentional path forward. He encouraged us to not be satisfied with the status quo. When there is conflict it is an opportunity for growth.
Take-aways from Unity members in relation to the workshop:

"This process is spirit lead, so we have the highest and best outcome - but we don't know ahead of time what that will be, so we're in this awesome adventure and we need to follow Spirit.  Amen. And so it is." [Jeannine]

"We need to engage the people that we already have and grow ourselves, everything else will fall into place!" [Kathy]

"The workshop helped me to shine a light on my limiting beliefs, to let go of self doubt, that I didn't fail in some way, to see instead that everything is right on schedule. I can say that I trust even more in a benevolent loving Creative Source. Do I want a quick decision or do I want to build community? I realize that the process will continue to dredge up old beliefs that need release and I'm ok with that. My heart is now at ease, such a relief!" [Mary]

"Judgement, and the desire to fix someone else, is a human condition, but not a workable solution.  We can only work on our own growth and that is what fixes us and allows us to give love to all." [Eileen]

"Blaming has an inverse relationship with accountability. Our (Unity EC) stability will not be the same as it used to be; It will become a new Normal."[Sandi A.]

"Basically, all churches are losing people and the income that falls as numbers shrink. We are not abnormal in that regard. Greg pushed to make the point that Unity-inclined people are what the church needs to grow, not just sheer numbers."   [Dennis A.]

"Love always trumps logic - always.  Time spent 'trying to figure t hings out' is better spent in finding love in self and others." [Carol]

" Confidentiality: When people share with you, unless they give you permission, it's their story to tell. If you share without permission, it is gossip." [Sue]

So how do we learn and grow from this? People still have questions and a want to know. Blame is discharging our own discomfort and pain and is very corrosive in relationships. When we blame we miss our opportunity for empathy.

We don't have all the answers but we are willing to learn. As we travel this period of transition we listen to Spirit to lead us to the right and perfect outcome. We are already the right community. We don't need to hurry to make decisions. Whatever is next for us will come.

Healing Space

N ew Offering for Spiritual Growth

Starting this January 27, 2020 at 6:30pm (Monday night), we will start a new spiritual adventure - creating a "Healing Space". This will be modeled after Myrtle Filmore and her approach to healing - that all healing comes from Spirit. To quote Myrtle: "Sometimes we pray to a God outside of ourselves. It is the God in the midst of us that frees and heals. You need to think of God, the all-powerful Healer, as being already within you, in every part of your mind, heart and body." Elizabeth Gerard, Jeannine Colburn and David Gerard will be helping to facilitate this concept. Our intention is that people learn to become their own healing facilitator, just like Myrtle. This will be a quiet, introspective time. Please come and experience this healing space with us. We are currently scheduling this time on the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 pm. There will be a love offering.

The Power for February is "Strength"

Affirmation:  I have the strength to accomplish all that is mine to do.

Strength- The ability to endure, stay the course, persevere.

The disciple, Andrew, represents the stability that lies at the foundation of every true character.

T he corresponding color is light green and the location is the small of the back.

Be Strong
By Winifred Wilkinson Hausmann

Strength is not simply a physical quality. As with all the Twelve Powers, it expresses itself on three levels, each one complementing the others in this life expression on the earth plane.

In the physical realm, strength is vitality, endurance, the ability to persist. In the mental area of expression, strength is that quality of mind which enables one to lead, to accomplish, to follow through on decisions, to establish purposes in life, and to hold firm to spiritual principles in daily living. It expresses itself as stability of character.

The highest expression, and the one that should determine the direction of strength in the other realms, is the spiritual realization of this quality. Here strength is closely allied with faith. In the symbology of the 12 disciples and the 12 qualities of mind that we are to develop as Jesus encouraged and developed his closest followers, strength and faith are represented by the brothers Andrew and Peter.

Peter must be the first of our qualities to be unfolded in a spiritual way, because without faith there is no impetus to action and no foundation for a program of spiritual growth. Faith also is our innate ability to see the unseen, plus the desire to persist in order to bring it forth. But faith has to be established in strength. The "two brothers" must grow together, both under the loving direction of our own Christ nature, the "perfect human" idea within us.

Faith must continually be strengthened, and strength must be inspired to right action by spiritual faith. In a spiritual way, then, strength enables us to persist in prayer, to build a stronger and stronger faith in our spiritual nature and the activity of God through us, and to do the things that need to be done by us as a part of becoming the "fourth dimension" person that our Twelve Powers, spiritually developed, enable us to be.

The person who depends on physical strength alone is constantly being challenged by others in the human thought and eventually will be overcome by one who is stronger.  ... Mental strength alone-pitted against the strong mind of another-may result in a test of wills, a human contest, with the same results. Only spiritual strength remains nonresistant, triumphant, regardless of the challenge.

For the best results, both physical and mental strength must be rooted in the spiritual development of the strength faculty. ...

... Strength is a quality that we can and must develop if we are to bring forth our God-given potential. It is to be brought forth along with the other 11 powers, but it must be basic in our growth.

As you begin your development of this faculty represented by Andrew, declare quietly to yourself: Through the will and the work of [Spirit] within, my God-given potential of strength is developed and expressed-easily and in divine order. Remember that strength is to be developed easily, not with tension and strain, but with a relaxed, trusting attitude.

... As with all the powers, strength is consciously awakened first in the intellectual nature and then developed (through prayerful concentration on the idea) to be a spiritual realization of oneness with the Source of all strength.
