Mia and Christina
have been matched for just over a year. Their match relationship started in a Learn & Earn cohort, where they focused on life skills and financial literacy. At the end of the initial 12 weeks, Mia was asked if she would like to continue meeting with her mentor, Christina, she responded with a resounding yes!
Christina has supported Mia as she has explored different job aspirations as a senior in high school. Christina even set up a behind the scenes tour and shadow day for Mia at a local zoo, after Mia expressed interest in becoming a veteranarian.
When Mia was presented with the opportunity to go on a school trip to South Africa, Christina was able to support her throughout all of the planning and fundraising that went into the trip. With support from Christina and the skills she had gained in Learn & Earn, Mia was able to get a passport and put together the resources she needed for the trip.
Mentors like Christina, are at the core of what we do here at SLM. Christina's commitment, consistency, and support have been crucial in the development of their relationship. We look forward to seeing what other exciting things this match will do together.
