Register Today for GSSCC's CE Candidate's Forum

Join GSSCC to learn more about the Democrat candidates seeking to be elected the next County Executive at a members-only Candidate Forum set for Wednesday morning, April 18, at Montgomery College. This year's Primary Election on June 26 is critical to the future of Montgomery County. Voters this year will elect the first new County Executive in 12 years.  All six Democrat candidates vying for this privilege have agreed to participate. (Candidates from other parties have no opposition in the June 26 primary, so their races will be uncontested.) GSSCC's Government Affairs Committee has developed a list of questions that focus on business issues and matters of importance for Silver Spring. Continental breakfast and informal networking will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m., courtesy of Statland & Katz. The forum will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Click here to register.
Congratulations and Welcome to MCEFCU

ANNAPOLIS UPDATE. . .

The Maryland General Assembly adjourns sine die at midnight tonight. Legislators are back in session beginning at 10 a.m. today to finish work on a number of bills, including some that affect Metro operations and others that impact business. Here's a recap of what happened last week and what we will be watching today:

*  The House and Senate have agreed to legislation that will fulfill Maryland's full commitment of  $167 million to support Metro. The measure also requires the grant to increase by 3 percent annually. Two bills that provide better state representation on the Metro Board and enhance oversight functions have cleared both chambers.

* Governor Hogan's bill to provide tax relief for small businesses has passed the Senate and appears to be moving through the House.

* Two versions of legislation that would prohibit employers from requiring employees to sign agreements that waive certain rights and remedies in connection with sexual harassment claims have been sent to a conference committee of members from both chambers to see whether a compromise can be worked out in the closing hours.

*  Legislation that would prohibit employers from inquiring or seeking information about an  applicants salary history did not move out of Senate Finance Committee last week. It could move today, but business groups are still working to keep it stalled in committee.

* Legislation that addresses internet privacy issues and "n et neutrality " passed the House (86-46) last Thursday and was waiting to be considered by the Senate Rules Committee.
