July is Nearly Over!
July has seemed to fly by and the back to school sales are already underway! We hope you have been enjoying this beautiful summer and are looking forward to many of the exciting events we have coming up.

Design Slam 2018
Whether you are a participant or a spectator, we hope that you will join us to take part in the fun and cheer on competing design teams as they race to complete compelling designs for a space in Lexington, KY in just one hour. Attendees will cast votes as the teams work and the team with the greatest number of votes at the end of the hour will take home bragging rights AND the coveted golden T-square!
Proceeds support Lexington Habitat for Humanity and AIA EKC. Save the date for Saturday,
September 15th at West 6th Brewing. Additional details to follow in the next few weeks!

KY Board of Architects - New Executive Director
AIA East Kentucky welcomes Cordelia "Dee Dee" Harbut, who has been named the new Executive Director of the Kentucky Board of Architects. Harbut replaces T. Rexford Cecil, AIA, who retired in late June.
Ms. Harbut is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, with a masters in business administration. She began her career as director for the Lexington Area Small Business Development Center in 2001, where she worked until becoming the state director of special programs for the Kentucky Small Business Development Center in 2005. She then become the statewide director for the Kentucky Procurement Technical Assistance Center in 2014, until her appointment in 2016 by Governor Matt Bevin as Executive Director of the Kentucky Commission on Women.

AIA Kentucky is once again sponsoring the broadcast of a new season of "10 That Change America." This series
counts down Top 10 components of the country's built environment that have had an impact on U.S. Culture. Host Geoffrey Baer takes viewers across the country to the legendary streets, monuments, homes and man-made marvels that changed America, including Cincinnati's Roebling Bridge!
Several episodes have already aired throughout July and an additional 2 episodes (Towns, Parks) are expected to air in August.

CANstruction Lexington 2018
BUILD DAY IS NOVEMBER 12TH:
AIA EKC is hosting the second annual CANstruction Lexington event! This year's program, which will benefit God's Pantry Food Bank, offers a fun way to get creative and bring attention to Lexington's design and construction industry, while also providing a valuable service to your community.
The event is being held at The Lexington Convention Center (430 W Vine St) with a build date of 11/12/18 and a deconstruction date of 12/3/18. (5) Teams have registered, so please make plans to view these incredible sculptures while on display. The awards ceremony will be held on 11/29/18 at the EKC annual meeting / holiday party. Lexington Emerging Professionals Network:
The Lexington Emerging Professionals Network (LEPN) was started in October of 2016 to provide emerging architectural professionals in the Lexington area an opportunity to network with fellow peers. Monthly meet-ups will be held at local restaurants, where all emerging professionals are welcome regardless of AIA membership.

UK Student Center Building Tour (November 1, 2018)
