ANNOUNCEMENTS
J-TERM 2019 IN TANZANIA: The Paideia 450 course "People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa" is a cultural immersion experience based in Maasai villages, small towns, and conservation areas in northern Tanzania. An information meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:45 a.m. in Koren 216.  For more information contact  Lori Stanley or  Emily Neal. Note: Must have 60 credits by the end of fall semester to apply.

J-Term in New Zealand: COMS/PE 239 Communication and Adventure Recreation in New Zealand focuses on media and technology, consumer culture, globalization, and nation building in connection with a variety of adventure activities that highlight community sustainability, risk benefit factors, experience-based judgment, ethical behavior, and effective leadership. An information meeting will be held 4:00-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, in Valders 252. For more information, contact Thomas C. Johnson or Jeffrey Boeke.  
   
The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle running from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.  This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here.    
College Broke" to Six Figures - Sharon Bui, founder of Frill Clothing, will share the story of how she took $350.00 and a dream and created a successful company that was featured on the hit programs Shark Tank and Beyond the Tank. Come learn how to go from "college broke" to building the business of your dreams. Her story will inspire the student entrepreneur, leader, and dreamer.

Job Posting: One year, non-renewable, full-time Visual Media Fellow. Responsibilities include mentoring work-study students, producing short marketing videos, occasional photography coverage, manage/monitor an inventory of photo and video equipment, and help in the conception and execution of video projects. Bachelor's degree preferred, with experience in visual media field a must. Municipal Electric Utility vote student information session: On Thursday, April 12 at 8:30 p.m. there will be a student-led informational meeting about the upcoming May 1 referendum on Decorah's electricity supplier. The meeting will take place in Main 112 and there will be PIZZA offered for all attendees. Voter registration will also be available.
"UnNatural History," a series of large-scale photographs depicting the ways humans objectify nature, will be on display in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery April 10-May 27. The artist, Diane Fox, photographs dioramas in Natural History Museums. Using reflection and including items within the diorama meant to be unseen, Fox explores the disconnect within the human/animal relationship.

Longtime anchor of ABC News' Nightline, Ted Koppel, will give Luther College's 2018 Roslien Distinguished Lecture "Science and Policy: Communication in the Twenty-First-Century World of Fake News," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. A question and answer session will follow the lecture.

J-TERM IN GERMANY AND THE UNITED KINGDOM: The Paideia 450 course "Green Europe: Advanced Models of Sustainability" explores the state of the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables in the two largest economies in Europe. Visit Berlin, London, and other amazing communities in Germany and the UK. An information meeting will be held from 9:40 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, in Valders 375. Shuttle to the Mall of America on Saturday, April 14 departing the Dahl Centennial Union at 9:00 AM and departing the Mall of America at 6:00 PM to return to campus. Student Tickets are $15.00 and may be purchased through the Ticket Office

SAC Cinema presents Marshall The story of Thurgood Marshall, the crusading lawyer who would become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. Movie is Friday, April 13, 7 p.m. doors open and 7:30 p.m. movie starts, Valders 206. Free with CAF and $5 without. Free popcorn while supplies last! Co-sponsored with the Diversity Center.

Luther College alumna Nora Robinson, '08, will serve as the keynote speaker for the annual Don Kemp Memorial lecture at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Baker Commons. The lecture honors the life of Luther social work faculty member Don Kemp. Kemp served as the director of the social work program at Luther from 1978-97.
 
Preus Library's annual Nationa l Library Week book sale will be held from Monday, April 9 to Friday, April 13. Hundreds of hardcover and paperback  books will be available for purchase in the library. Prices will decline daily.  
  
Former Fulbright "Roving Scholar" Andy Meyer will present the Gjerset lecture  
at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in F.W. Olin Building, Room 102 (note change of location). The lecture is titled "The Milk Route and Other Habits of Mind." 
In the 2015-16 school year, Meyer served as a Fulbright "Roving Scholar" in American Studies, in Norway.

Luther College's brass ensembles
will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Center for Faith and Life. The concert includes several stylistic forms, including jazz improvisation.
Luther's brass ensembles include the Luther College Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble and the Horn Ensemble.

The Luther College Emeriti Colloquium will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Mott Room of Luther's Dahl Centennial Union for a presentation by Luther College Professor and Library Archivist Emeritus Duane Fenstermann. The presentation is titled "Huffman/Cameron Bibliographic Journey to the Frontier."

The Buried Above Ground documentary screening and discussion will be held April 12, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Olin 102. The film features three powerful PTSD survivor's stories of trauma, survival, and recovery. Sponsored by Active Minds, Counseling Service, Social Work Dept., and Helping Services for Youth & Families.

Those Who Can Do Teach, a series of mixed-media works by Luther College recent alumni art educators, will be on display in the Preus Library April 12 through May 27. The artists involved include Micayla Irmiter, class of 2014; Jenna Darsee, Jenny Bonnell and Katie Mathis, class of 2015; Lars Johnson and Robin Schone Hengesteg, class of 2016; and Maxwell Green, class of 2017.






Internationally renowned artist Chris Kienke's exhibit "You Promised Me Poems," will be on display Tuesday, April 3, through Friday, April 27, in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in Luther's Center for the Arts. There will be an artist's talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the CFA, Room 203, and a reception at 4 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the Kirstin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery.
