WE NEED YOUR CREATIVE IDEAS!

SEASON PLANNING IS UNDERWAY!

If you are eager to help plan FCT's 2018-2019 Main Season, and the 2018 and 2019 Youth programs, please reserve Saturday, August 19th on your calendar and read this!

The Artistic Committee is getting organized for our next round of planning. We need YOU, as active members of FCT, to join us and share your ideas. At our first meeting, we will review any proposals that have already been submitted and brainstorm other possible show titles.  We are seeking volunteers to form the Play Reading subcommittee, who will review all scripts being considered. We will also need volunteers to focus specifically on ideas for the Youth shows in June of both 2018 and 2019.  Your input is important in order to continue the high quality performances at FCT.

The Committee will reconvene in October to narrow the field of suggestions hopefully to provide more than one season of shows. We will need to make a recommendation at that time for the June 2018 Youth show to be presented to the Board at their November meeting.

Finally, at our December meeting we will finalize recommendations for the 2018-2019 Main Season, the June 2019 Youth show, and possibly another season as well, for presentation to the Board at the beginning of 2018.

If you are interested in directing a show (or just suggest some titles), NOW is the time.  Please go to the FCT website and find the Directors page under "GET INVOLVED" or see the info below in another section of this newsletter, read the notes and print a copy of the Director Proposal form and instructions for submitting.  Submit as many as you like, but don't delay, because...

The Artistic Committee meeting is August 19th, from 9 to noon, at the Vint Hill Villages Conference Room, just down the street from the theater!  If you have questions, please email our new Artistic Chair, Dr. Sheryl Solow, at Artistic_Chairman@FCTstage.org.

FCT could sure use the community's help. Please see below how YOU can help us! If you can help in anyway,
Please contact us at Christie@FCTstage.org or call and leave your phone number at 540-349-8760.

1.  FCT needs 4-6 seamstresses who are willing to sew costumes during out 2016-2017 season. Please let us know if you might be available to donate a bit of time. The amount of time can be determined by you.

2. We need 3 ladies who are willing to come to a few rehearsals in October and 6 performances in November (Nov. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12) to do quick change dressing (peeling off clothes, etc) of actors for an upcoming show.

3. We are in desperate need of a storage place
for our props. ( garage, barn, back room of an office building, etc) The only requirement is that it has light and is weatherproof. We do not need outlets. It does not have to be climate controlled. We are a 501c3 organization and the space can be donated and used as a deduction off of your taxes as well as a few other perks that we can offer you.

Greater Tuna has 2 male characters that play 10 roles each. With lightening fast costume changes the characters are portrayed seamlessly to make the show an uproaring comedy. The setting is 1980's in Texas.  The play is notable in that two men play the entire cast of over twenty eccentric characters of both genders and various ages.
Performed by Williams
  • Charlene Bumiller - Daughter of Hank and Bertha Bumiller, and sister to Stanley and Jody
  • Jody Bumiller - Youngest child of Bertha Bumiller, followed constantly by "eight to ten dogs"
  • Stanley Bumiller - fresh from reform school; twin to Charlene, and he later talks to the dead judge gloating how he killed him
  • Vera Carp - Town snob and vice president of the Smut-Snatchers of the New Order
  • Petey Fisk - Employee of the Greater Tuna Humane Society
  • Didi Snavely - Owner of Didi's Used Weapons ("If we can't kill it, it's immortal")
  • Arles Struvie - A disc jockey at radio station OKKK
  • Chad Hartford- A reporter from Houston who comes to interview Bertha
  • Phinas Blye- A politician from Indiana who runs for City Council every election
  • Harold Dean Lattimer- OKKK's weatherman
  • Helen Bedd - waitress, Tastee Kreme Diner
Performed by Sears
  • Bertha Bumiller - wife of Hank and mother to Jody, Stanley, and Charlene; member of the Smut Snatchers of the New Order
  • Hank Bumiller- Husband of Bertha
  • Pearl Burras - Aunt to Bertha, who is, as Petey Fisk claims, addicted to killing dogs (in the play, called canicidal thumbitus)
  • Leonard Childers - Station Manager of OKKK for his talk show, "Leonard on the Line"
  • Sheriff Givens- Believes in old-fashioned jails
  • Elmer Watkins, head of the local chapter of the KKK, dedicated to making the town safe "for the right kind of people"
  • Yippy the dog- Pet of the month for five weeks in a row, yips a lot, and no one wants to adopt him
  • R.R. Snavely - UFOlogist, town drunk, and husband to Didi

Directors
FCT is looking for Directors to propose shows for our 2018-2019 Main Season.

FCT's season typically consists of 5 productions: a "classic" musical, a "contemporary" musical, a "classic" drama, comedy or mystery, and a more contemporary non-musical as well, with the fifth show selected to balance out the other four. Our December production is intended to be family-friendly and "fun for the holidays", although it does not have to be specifically a Christmas show.

We also seek directors who would like to work with our youth program.  Our youth activities typically take place in June, July or August, but workshops could be scheduled at any time of the year.  We are looking to schedule our Summer 2018 youth programs at this time, but suggestions for 2019 are also welcome.

Please download the   Director Proposal form (page 2 is optional at this stage) and when complete, email to
You may submit as many proposals as you like; please be sure to mention any limitations as to time periods when you would not be available to do the show. Please don't delay in responding - our Artistic Committee will need to make decisions about the 2018-2019 season by the end of 2017!  Our next meeting is on August 19th; you are welcome (and encouraged) to attend.
