We could not be prouder of our TeamWorks team and teacher Craig Sullivan who captured the national title at the SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, KY! Our Chapter Business Procedure team also represented Belton well by placing 4th in the nation!
In the TeamWorks competition, teams of four students received blueprints for a construction project that required carpentry, electrical, plumbing and masonry skills. After making a presentation on how they would approach the project, the teams had two days to complete the structure. Team members included Chloe Bush, Andres Zapata, Joseph Hermann, and Allen Harlow.
This was the first year the Chapter Business Procedure team competed at the national level. The team of Gabriel Alvarado-Pereyra, Heath Grace, Mikayla Parker, Hailey Peace, Jordan Ross and Jeffrey Trowell won the state championship prior to this competition. Teacher Karen Francis is their sponsor.

Our vision is to be a leader in preparing every student to excel in tomorrow's world. While that direction is set by our school board, it's a commitment to our students that's shared by every employee.

Preparing every student to be successful after graduation requires us to recognize that not every student will follow the same path. For some of our students, the next step might be a four-year college or university. For others, it might be a trade school or community college. And many of our students will step directly into their career.

For all of our students, the district's career and technical education program provides valuable opportunities to discover a passion, gain a professional certification and find their path. The variety of career and technical education courses is important, but so is the quality of the instruction and its alignment with real world industry practices.

With their national championship last month, Belton High School's construction trades team proved that our students receive high-quality instruction that prepares them to take on real world challenges. To win the TeamWorks event at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, over three days, the team of four students built a kitchen to meet the building codes for a basement apartment in Chicago.

Increasingly for our students, excelling in tomorrow's world means succeeding against competitors not just here in central Texas but from across the nation and the world. And in Belton ISD, it's not just our construction trades team that has found success on a national stage.

Our parliamentary procedure team also placed fourth at the SkillsUSA national competition. Two North Belton Middle School students produced a documentary, which took fifth place at the National History Day last month. One of our swimmers qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials and is one of the top college recruits nationwide in the high school class of 2018.

At the campus level, Leon Heights Elementary was a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. South Belton Middle School and Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow are Apple Distinguished Schools. New Tech is also a 2017 U.S. News & World Report Bronze Medal High School.

In Belton ISD, we're realizing our vision. That's only possible with the support of our community. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Superintendent

There's no place else to be but in Belton, Texas, on the Fourth of July! Special thanks to the Marching 100, the Magic Belles, BHS Cheerleaders, FFA students, and the Transportation Department for their participation.
Message from the School Board President:

Our Schools! Our Community!

When we were children most of us viewed summer as a time of vacation for everyone. And while many still view this season as a long break for school, what we often overlook is the considerable efforts underway throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming school year. While many of our kids are engaged in summer camps for athletics, fine arts and other interests, preparations for a successful school experience are being made throughout our community.

The Board and administration are involved in planning for expected growth and the development of our annual budget, teachers and staff are involved in a variety of training experiences to better equip them to lead our students to success, child nutrition staff are providing food for children through the summer meals program, and maintenance projects are underway throughout Belton ISD.

Some of our most gracious and generous community members have been working for several months with Project Apple Tree to provide school supplies and clothing for our students. Each year this great work enables our kids to start school with new clothing and school supplies that their families could not otherwise afford. Be looking for opportunities you can join in the work of Project Apple Tree!

Our students continue to receive accolades for their achievement even during the summer months. Several of our Belton Tiger athletes and fine arts students have received all-state honors, our NBMS students placed 5th in the National History Day contest, and Garrett Smith was elected the 77th Governor at Texas Boys State and was selected to represent Texas at Boys Nation. Many of our students, including the Marching 100, Magic Belles, Cheerleaders and FFA received praise and recognition for their participation in the Belton 4th of July parade.

Our four-time state champion construction trades students won a National Championship in TeamWorks, and Chapter Business Procedures students placed 4th at the National SkillsUSA competition in Louisville. It was a special treat to witness their accomplishments and see firsthand how well our students are prepared to excel against national competition. The support and training they received from our amazing teachers and community partners prepared them for an impressive level of success.

Great things are coming for our students in the upcoming school year. Thank you for your continued support of our schools and our kids!

I Love Belton!

It was such a joy graduating students from Belton High School and Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow. This year we graduated approximately 730 students. Our graduation ceremonies are a truly special experience, and the celebrations of the Class of 2017 were no exception.
We are grateful our graduates share in the benefits that come from living in a community that supports our kids. Belton ISD offers so many choices and opportunities because this community has made a commitment to prepare our students to excel in tomorrow's world.
