Dear Members:
A few important items for your information:
Traffic Advisory - Road Closures, Detours and Major Delays
On Saturday, August 5, the 7th Annual AC Triathlon will take place throughout Atlantic City and parts of Atlantic County. Atlantic City will experience major traffic delays throughout the day as more than 1,500 athletes will be navigating the water, roads and boardwalk. Residents and visitors should allow extra time to get to a destination. Below is a list of road closures and detours. Officers will be positioned throughout the course. A special thanks to Allan Doerr, who shared this information with us.
  • AC Expressway Exits #5, #4, #2 and #1, including the entire AC Connector, will be closed from 5am to 11am.
  • Route 40/Albany Avenue will have several lane closures both east and west from 7-11AM. Avoid Route 40 if possible.
  • Motorists are asked to use Route 30 and the AC Expressway to enter/exit Atlantic City.
  • Motorists traveling to and from Ventnor and Atlantic City are asked to use West End Avenue.
Proposed Rules Changes NYC DOT Penalty Schedule

In a recent Member Alert, we asked for your help in opposing the proposed changes to the DOT penalty schedules in NYC.  We hope you took the time to comment by yesterday (July 31).

There was also a public hearing held yesterday.  Here is an excerpt of comments submitted to NYC DOT by Patrick Condren, a transportation consultant, who attended the hearing.

"In recent years, bus and motorcoach utilization has increased dramatically in NYC. At the same time, UBER, LYFT and other vehicles, along with truck deliveries from online purchase orders, have clearly increased. During this same time, there have been increased restrictions on locations for "Bus Layover" , "Bus Parking" and/or "Hotel" loading areas ( where buses are blocked from access/egress due to increase in other vehicles) and many other sites while unable to re-position to load/unload in the original charter party and/or commuter or contract assigned locations. The challenges to many locations, primarily in the central business district of Manhattan are well documented, especially midtown. These situations have created challenges for many carriers to pick up and discharge passengers in appropriate locales. There has been a dramatic increase of summons issues to legitimate and authorized motorcoach carriers providing services to the riding public. My comment is that NYCDOT should dramatically increase the number of assigned "authorized" locations for bus operators to utilize. The existing and proposed penalty amounts seem punitive; other major cities encourage utilization of private bus carriers. NYCDOT should collaborate with local bus operators and bus industry associations to coordinate a strategy for more efficiency of bus utilization in NYC."

We thank Patrick for attending, supporting the effort and for sharing his comments with us.
