Commerce City opened a new chapter in cooperative business development and job creation for Denver International Airport (DIA) and the region it serves. After more than two years of discussions, officials unveiled a modification to the original 1988 agreement that enabled the creation of DIA and guides commercial development.

Under the terms of the agreement, which must be approved by voters in Denver and Adams County this fall, Denver would pay $10 million to Adams County and its communities to create a 1,500-acre pilot program that would allow for commercial development barred under the 1988 agreement. Denver will split tax proceeds in half with Adams County, which will dole out the money to Aurora, Commerce City, Thornton, Brighton and Federal Heights. DIA would get to keep all of the income from land leases.

With nearly 12 square miles of available land directly bordering the airport, Commerce City's comprehensive plan aligns with the vision of an Aerotropolis, fueled by aviation-focused businesses and related enterprises. A new Commerce City business will facilitate "co-sharing" or  bringing multiple businesses, like-minded individuals, and entrepreneurs together at one location to leverage resources.

The Office Share recently opened up in Belle Creek and they believe the co-sharing model is a great fit for the area. "We are excited to begin this journey with other small and startup businesses in Commerce City," said Noah Seis owner of The Office Share.

Seis, who runs a Voice Over Internet Protocol business grew tired of the commute to downtown Denver and the time away from family.

The Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metro area is rated first among the 375 metros for economic strength indicators; seventh for year-over-year growth, and eighth for both workforce and recession-busting attributes. And Adams County is ranked third in the nation for job growth according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. So what does this mean for Commerce City?
