Rutgers Day Returns April 28  
On April 28, Rutgers Day returns bigger and better than ever. Choose from  600+ free programs , including hands-on activities in the sciences, arts, and humanities; demonstrations and exhibitions by faculty, staff, and students; and performances by student musicians and dancers. 

Enjoy the Rutgers Day and All-Alumni Parade  on College Avenue, engineering and health science activities on Busch Campus, the New Jersey Folk Festival on Douglass Campus, farm animal shows and plant sales on Cook Campus, campus wide activities in Camden and Newark, and so much more. PERFORMANCES
Support food justice through music. The sixth annual Hub City Music Festival takes place April 3-29 at venues throughout New Brunswick. Donations accepted benefiting Elijah's Promise.

Watch the 2014 Tony Award® for Best Musical winner A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder at The State Theatre of New Jersey, April 6-7.

On April 6, enjoy your lunch with a short program of works by Mozart, Faure, and Brahms at a new series of Lunchtime Chamber Music Performances at the Zimmerli Art Museum. 

The State Theatre of New Jersey presents Black Violin, classically-trained virtuoso violinist/violists duo who merge classical, hip-hop, jazz, blues, and R&B into an electrifying style all their own, April 12. Or, enjoy Salsa group Grupo Niche, one of Latin America's most popular acts, April 13.

coLAB Arts presents " Life, Death, Life Again: Children Sentenced to Die in Prison," a documentary play by Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg, April 15, at the Zimmerli Art Museum.

Mason Gross School of the Arts and Hub City Opera and Dance collaborate on the Opera at Rutgers: Carl Orff's Igranieri, April 15, at Nicholas Music Center.

Attend an Israel Independence Day Celebration, featuring Israband, an Israeli cover band, April 19, at the Rutgers Hillel. Free and open to all.

Robert Wood Johnson AIDS Program presents "Is There a Lawyer in the House?" April 20, a medical/legal symposium with information on h ow to access legal services for people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic health conditions.

George Street Playhouse presents Jonathan Kite, from TV’s 2 Broke Girls, in the titular role in Larry Shue’s The Nerd, April 24 - May 20.
LECTURES AND EXHIBITIONS
See United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy K. Smith  read from her most recent works April 4 at Rutgers' College Avenue Student Center, as part of the Writers at Rutgers Reading Series .

The Institute for Research on Women’s 2017-18 Distinguished Lecture Series presents Amrita Basu: The Perils and Paradoxes of Hindu Nationalism, April 5.

The Zimmerli Art Museum hosts the 2nd annual NOFLASH Video Show April 7. This one-night event features avant-garde short films by emerging artists from across the globe and your own backyard. Free and open to the public.

The Zimmerli Art Museum offers a number of lectures this month including: “ Identity, Imagination, and Science: Helen Lundeberg’s Surrealism” April 11, and the launch of Aperture magazine’s “ Prison Nation" issue, accompanied by a panel discussion April 24.

The annual Celebration of Storytelling and Teacher Workshop is April 17 at the Zimmerli Art Museum. Both programs are free, but registration is required. Professional credit development hours available.

Alfa Art Gallery presents the New Brunswick Art Salon for Oil Color and Mixed Media 2018, beginning April 24 with an opening reception on April 27 featuring artwork spanning the colorfully abstract to the otherworldly and surreal.

Professor Bartov will deliver a lecture, “Out of the Shtetl: Anarchists, Zionists, and Other Dreamers Encounter the World,” April 29, hosted by the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life.
FOR KIDS
Families are invited to get creative at  Art Together   at the Zimmerli Art Museum April 8. This free, drop-in interactive workshop is led by Mason Gross students and teaching artists.

Join Rutgers Gardens for the Little Sprouts Garden Adventures drop-in program, for ages 3-5 with an adult; Bug Buddies - April 10, and Incredible Edible Plants - April 17.

Let your children explore, create, and perform under the expert guidance of New Jersey’s most distinguished teaching artists at the state’s premier arts conservatory at Mason Gross Extension Division. Register by April 15 for early-bird rates.

Registration for Scarlet KIDS Summer Camp is now open, for children in first to sixth grades . Tuition includes before/after care; breakfast, lunch, snack; activities, including swimming, enrichment programs, field trips, and a camp t-shirt.

Rutgers Division of Continuing Studies offers a variety of pre-college summer educational opportunities for all ages. 

Both Zimmerli Summer Art Camp and Rutgers Gardens Summer Exploration Camp offer experiences to learn and explore in the Gardens this summer!

Join the YMCA Camp Lenape in Piscataway for children kindergarten to teen. Activities include arts and crafts, group games, sports, swimming, field trips, and more.
SCIENCE & NATURE
Observe the night sky through a 20-inch optical telescope at the Robert A. Schommer Astronomical Observatory on select Thursdays of every month, weather permitting. This month's dates are April 12, 19, and 26.

Construction continues on Cook's Market at the Rutgers Gardens, a permanent structure that will allow the farm market to run year round. Visit the winter market April 20.
SPORTS & RECREATION
Rutgers Football returns to High Point Solutions Stadium for the Scarlet and White Game April 14, followed by an autograph session.

The Rutgers Unite Half Marathon is one of the largest half marathons in New Jersey offering a scenic course throughout Rutgers campuses April 15. 

Gather your friends, colleagues, and family members to run, or walk, in the Vets 4 Warriors 5k, April 22.
Eric LeGrand and Team LeGrand of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation will host the first annual Eric LeGrand Flag Football Tournament on Rutgers Day, April 28, on Rutgers Busch Campus.

Rutgers Women's Soccer Upper 90 Fund is hosting a Fearless Girl fundraiser featuring Mandy Gonzalez from Broadway's Hamilton, April 29, at High Point Solutions Stadium.
Open streets are back! New Brunswick Ciclovia returns April 22. Enjoy car free streets, activities, fitness classes, and performances. There is no beginning and no end--join in anywhere along the route from College Avenue to Jersey Avenue.

Registration for the Lady Knight Camp and Clinic on June 2 is now open--a fun and educational evening teaching football fundamentals and player safety. N et proceeds are donated to Women Aware, domestic violence service agency and shelter.

Rutgers Dance Marathon swings into action April 6-7. Stop by the RAC on Livingston Campus and cheer on over 2,000 Rutgers dancers and volunteers as they raise money for New Brunswick-based Embrace Kids Foundation to support the non-medical needs of children with cancer, sickle cell, and other serious disorders.

The New Brunswick Free Public Library will be celebrating its 9th annual Indian Holi Festival April 7, featuring music and dance performances, food, henna tattoos and the opportunity to participate in Holi color play.

The Metlar Bodine House Museum hosts Cocktails with Keno with PBS antiques appraiser Leigh Keno, April 7 on Rutgers' Busch Campus, including a live benefit auction.

New Brunswick Free Public Library is offering assistance to taxpayers in understanding new tax laws and filing their taxes online, by appointment through April 7.

The Friends of the New Brunswick Free Public Library are hosting their annual Book Sale, April 13 and 14.

The Mercado Esperanza is a monthly market celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit, cultural heritage, and artistic soul of New Brunswick’s diverse Latino community, April 22 at Joyce Kilmer Park.
