Kings' and queens' embroidery, 1920s flapper dresses, bridal gowns and red carpet fashions - all enhanced by the little known art of tambour beading. Curator of Collections Jason French chats with Robert Haven, one of few people in the U.S. who can teach the technique. Haven will be leading workshops and speaking at BCM's Brown Bag Luncheon this week.

4-Day Tambour Beading Workshop
Feb. 22-23 and Feb. 29-Mar. 1
This high-fashion, hand-beading technique will be taught by beading master Robert Haven, owner of Bead Embroidery and Design Studio in Lexington, KY. Haven has taught master classes in beading around the world and his work has been featured on ABC’s “Good Morning, America.” He will conduct this four-day workshop on two consecutive weekends: February 22 and 23 and Feb. 29 and March 1. Sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. Cost is $380 for BCM members and $400 for non-members, which includes all tools and supplies. Classes are limited to 10 participants. Please bring a packed lunch on Saturdays.

Jack Moreland to Receive Special
Two-Headed Calf Award
Jack Moreland, president of Southbank Partners, will receive the Kenneth and Eileen Harper Special Recognition Award as part of Behringer-Crawford Museum's 2020 Two-Headed Calf Awards for outstanding service to the community.

A distinguished educator and community leader, Moreland is a former public school science teacher, principal and superintendent who served as interim president of Northern Kentucky University and superintendent of the Covington Independent Schools. He was instrumental in helping to merge the state’s community colleges into the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and served as its interim chancellor.

Moreland currently is president of Southbank Partners, Inc., a community and economic development organization that coordinates activity with the cities that lie along Northern Kentucky's bank of the Ohio River, and the Newport Southbank Bridge Company, which operates the Purple People Bridge. He is a trustee emeritus of Behringer-Crawford Museum.

The award will be presented at the 2020 Two-Headed Calf awards dinner and gala on Thursday, April 9 at Northern Kentucky University’s Votruba Student Union Ballroom. Also receiving Two-Headed Calf awards are:
  • Mary Lou and the late Carroll J. "Mac" Heidrich of Fort Mitchell - Service to the Community: Generosity and Vision Award
  • Cathy Wolff, first-grade teacher at Beechwood Elementary School in Fort Mitchell- Service to Learning: Academic Excellence and Innovation Award
  • Author and historian Robert Webster - Service to History: Scholarship and Public Service Award

Fascinating Folklore for Toddlers
Tot Tuesdays! Fairy Tales

Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel - fairy tales have taught us lessons in life and love. Toddlers and their parents are invited to "Tot Tuesdays! Fairy Tales" for a morning playdate exploring fascinating folklore at BCM on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m. Enjoy stories, sing-alongs, snacks and make your own "fire-breathing" dragon!

Tot Tuesdays! are held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors 60+, $5 for children and free for BCM members, plus a $1 per child craft fee.
