Registration

The  fall class list is available for you to look at and registration is open as of April 2nd (April 16th if you're non-degree seeking)! Classes fill up fast, so be sure to schedule an appointment with your advisor soon to discuss options for next semester.
 
The easiest way to set up an appointment is online. Visit http://www.uaf.edu/ruralss/advising-appointments/, click on your advisor's name, and follow the prompts. If you're not comfortable using this method, you can always call us at (907) 474-7871 or drop by the office! 

Important Dates and Deadlines
  • April 2 - Begin registration and fee payment for Fall 2018 (degree-seeking students)
  • April 16 - Begin registration and fee payment for Fall 2018 (non-degree-seeking students)

Financial Aid Drawing

When you're not working on your studies, be sure to start applying for financial aid! Not only will it help you next semester, but you could win a three-credit tuition waiver! 

If you fill out any financial aid applications for the fall semester, let your advisor know and you'll be entered into our drawing. You can get one entry per piece so the more you fill out, the higher your chances are of winning. Already filled out some financial aid applications? The last day to enter the drawing is on April 24th before the Dennis Demmert Award Ceremony

Dennis Demmert Award Nominations
 
The Dennis Demmert award recognizes staff and faculty members who have made a positive impact on the Alaska Native and rural student experience at UAF. As a student, if you know of someone who has gone above and beyond to educate, advocate, or support you, show them your appreciation by nominating them today! Please understand that because this award is offered through Rural Student Services, the RSS staff cannot be considered as award recipients!

Recipients of this award will be recognized at a reception in the RSS Gathering Room on Tuesday, April 24th at 1:00 pm.

Springfest BBQ
 
From April 19th through the 21st, UAF will be celebrating Springfest! There will be tons of  activities  going on around the main campus. Keep your ears open for some of the awesome events to check out like the Pool Volleyball Tournament, Karaoke, and the Watermelon Drop! Even though classes won't be canceled on the 20th, be sure to stop by RSS at noon for our annual barbecue!

2018 Graduation
  
If you are graduating this year, congratulations! Make sure you're ready to walk by getting the following done before commencement.
  • Purchase regalia (cap and gown, etc.) and invitations
  • Celebrate at the Grad Bash on April 28th at The Pub!
  • Attend the commencement ceremony on May 5th 
If you're an Alaska Native or American Indian graduate, don't forget to pick up your red sash at the Rural Student Services front desk! We have them available now. 

Summer Scholarships
 
Are you planning to take classes this summer but need some financial assistance? The UAF Summer Sessions and the eLearning and Distance Education programs are offering some great scholarships! Whether you are looking to save on plane fare to Fairbanks or want to win a $500 eLearning tuition award, there are plenty of ways to save some money this summer! RSS Survey
 
It's that time again! Every year, we ask you about how we're doing. We need your input so that we can serve you better! In the past, we've used responses to add services like free coffee and change ones that aren't working out for you. 

Be sure to fill out our year-end survey by April 23rd and enter in the drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card! 

You can fill out the survey in person when you stop by our office, or you can simply go to http://www.uaf.edu/ruralss/rss-survey/. It's completely anonymous, takes less than five minutes, and could mean even better services at RSS!

VITA Tax Assistance Program
 
The deadline to get your taxes in is April 15th!

Great Alaska Accounting People (GAAP) provides free income tax assistance, preparation, and electronic filing as part of the IRS Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA). If you need help with your taxes, stop by The Nook in the Bunnell Building on April 7th between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Career Workshop
 
Need to update your resume? Is your picture on LinkedIn professional? Do you know how to set yourself apart from other candidates in an interview? Join the UAF COJO and English Departments at their Career Workshop which will provide feedback, practice, and a headshot. Take the opportunity to improve your career success and join them on April 12th from 3:00 - 6:00 pm on the first floor of Bunnell! 
Tutoring Services

We hope you're doing great in all of your classes! However, if you feel like you're falling behind or just need a little extra help, make sure you seek out a tutor.

We have tons of help on campus, at CTC, and even online! We also have some great student tutors available in the Gathering Room! Whether you need to talk to someone about Math, English, Science, or a Foreign Language, you're covered. Visit our  tutor page to figure out where and when tutors are available in your subject.

Join a Club!

A big part of college life is getting involved in things that you're interested in. Not only do you get a chance to make a difference or submerge yourself into your hobbies, but you get to do it with other like-minded people who have similar goals in mind. Those friendships that you create may be just the thing you need to forge ahead. Also, a ton of clubs provide free food, so there's that.

Aarigaa  
Aarigaa is a group for students to come together to learn about God, worship, and spend time with one another.

Alaska Native Education Student Association (ANESA) 
ANESA is a student organization for students interested in becoming elementary or high school teachers. All students are welcome to join whether or not they are majoring or interested in this area.

Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP)
Open to any students interested in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering. They also provide members with internship and scholarship opportunities.

AISES is a student organization for students majoring or interested in the natural sciences, computer science, engineering, wildlife, mathematics, health fields, as well as students who intend to be math and/or science teachers.

Festival of Native Arts 
The Alaska Native Studies Department hosts the annual Festival of Native Arts in March. Volunteers are needed to assist the student-operated organization. Your energy and ideas will contribute to this successful event.

Iñu-Yupiaq 
The Iñu-Yupiaq Dance Group is a student dance club that performs many Inupiaq and Yup'ik songs and dances. Everyone is invited to participate.

NABL is a student organization for students majoring or interested in accounting, applied accounting, applied business, business administration, economics, or rural development.
