Dear Neighbors ,

One of our biggest challenges in the Bay Area is housing availability. The market supply of housing and the constraints that we are experiencing is prevalent in all nine counties of the Bay Area. Historically, the City of San Jose has led the Bay Area in providing housing for the local workforce. We continue to do our part in supplying housing, but we need the rest of the Bay Area cities to join our efforts.

This fun-filled event will include a resource fair, a walk around the mall, warm-up exercises, a raffle, breakfast, and more!

VOLUNTEER - Great American Litter Pick Up
Saturday, April 21st, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Willow Glen Community Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave.

Join Councilmember Dev Davis at the Great American Litter Pick Up this Earth D ay! Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and refreshments will be served. Litter sticks, gloves, bags, and visibility bests will be provided for volunteers.

Bascom Complete Streets Study Community Forum

VTA will be hosting a community forum to discuss preliminary design alternatives and gather public feedback for the Bascom Complete Streets Study.

FOGWASTE should always go in the trash, never a drain; all sinks drain to the Bay!

EITC and FREE Tax Preparation Services

See if you're eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and FREE tax preparation services. To get started, text TAX to (408) 669-4830.

Last month, the Mayor's Office joined United Way in a campaign to help more low-income residents take full advantage of tax breaks available to them, including the Earned Income tax credit: an underused and poorly-known credit available to those who meet low-income qualifications.

Join today! For youth ages 11-18; annual membership is $10. The Teen Center provides homework assistance, pool & ping pong tables, video games, arts and crafts, sports, team building and more! The Teen Center is open Monday - Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Parcel Tax Exemption

If you are a homeowner over the age of 65 OR a homeowner that receives Social Security disability benefits, you may qualify for an exemption from the $85 Campbell Union High School District (CUHSD) parcel tax. This parcel tax was renewed in 2013 by Measure E. The tax funds are used to restore and maintain current school programs, reduce class sizes, enhance campus safety, and recruit and retain qualified teachers.

Tax-Aide Program

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free, individualized tax preparation for low-to-moderate-income taypayers - especially those 50 and older. This program is available at the following locations until April 15th:

  • Willow Glen Community Center, 2175 Lincoln Ave.
SR 87 Corridor Study and Survey

Highway 87 is one of San Jose's most vital corridors, bringing travelers to destintations downtown, as well as to the airport, and serving as an important connector between US 101 and State Route (SR) 85. It also experiences some of the worst congestion in Santa Clara County. VTA is currently conducting a study of SR 87, with an aim to identify innovative solutions for improving traff flow during peak hours.

Please consider taking VTA's short survey to share your travel habits, thoughts, and opinions as they pertain to Highway 87. Your input can help shape future transportation improvements.

Run for education and register for the WG5K! The course starts in Downtown Willow Glen and winds through neighborhood streets, with racers cheered on by local businesses and residents.

Racers, families and neighbors are then invited to a post-race Festival, awards ceremony and Kids' Fun Zone. Festival activities include sponsor booths, pancake breakfast, music, photo booth, chiropractic and more. Kids' Fun Zone includes games, activities and slides.

The City of San Jose's Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) is launching a new neighborhood event, Neighbor Nights, at local San Jose community centers. The event will take place every second Friday of the month.

#SJNeighborNights will offer free activities, including music, movies, crafts, dances, sports, and more. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a night of neighborly fun!

Urban Village Farmers' Market is now located in the Willow Glen Community Center parking lot. Neighbors can stroll the market to get delicious coffee and a bite to eat while meeting new and old friends alike!
