Summer Classes at FAU!
Families, encourage your student to consider enrolling in a summer class or two or three. Florida Atlantic University is committed to helping students progress through their degree and graduate on time or early. The Summer 2020 schedule offers a large selection of on and off campus options including over 350 online, 700+ on campus in Boca Raton, Davie, and Jupiter, as well as faculty led study abroad and internships.

Summer courses taken early in a student’s academic career have a positive impact.
• Lightens the load later in a more intense semester
• Decreases the time to graduation
• Decreases the overall cost of education
• Helps a student focus on a difficult subject
• Broadens global awareness in faculty-led study abroad
• Helps students meet the state summer enrollment requirement*

Financial Aid is available in summer to eligible students. The Pell Grant program, Florida Pre-paid and Bright Future Scholarships can be used to pay for summer credits!

Housing – Housing contracts are available for the full or half summer starting March 1.

Registration opens: March 23, 2020
For more information visit: FAU.edu/summer

* Florida Board of Governors regulation 6.016 –Students entering a university in the State University System with fewer than 60 semester hours are required to earn a minimum of nine credit hours in one or more summer sessions at one of the state universities in Florida before graduation.

Can’t Have One Without the Other:
Graduation Progress and Financial Resources

Academic success & finances go hand in hand!

  • How well a student does in their classes affects their semester and overall GPA, which has a significance influence on their federal, state, and institutional financial assistance. Funds that are affected can include scholarships, grants, and/or loans depending on the requirements of the specific funding source that may be used to pay for course tuition and fees as well as housing and meal plans.

  • Grades are a source of currency. Depending on whether a student passes their registered classes or not can change the amount of the financial assistance awarded and/or continued.

  • Grades also contribute to credit hours earned. The difference between how many credit hours students may earn vs. credit hours that they have attempted is very important to keeping a good pace towards graduation, because this ratio can also determine the amount of assistance awarded and/or continued to pay for future coursework, fees, and books.

  • Encourage students to meet with their academic advisor and coaches! We can help students learn more about academic policies, teach them how to sign up for tutoring, encourage them to attend all classes, visit professor’s and/or teaching assistant’s office hours, and use other campus resources.

  • Registration advising for the summer and fall semesters have begun! Please encourage your students to schedule an appointment now to avoid long lines in March, when the registration opens for the summer and fall semesters.
