Dear Families,

We are deeply saddened at the news of the death of one of our parents, Kim Harwell, who died unexpectedly on March 26th. The CCA Crisis Response Team has been assembled and school and district team members have been working with staff to support our students.

There is no right or wrong way to cope with death, but there are some things that adults can do to help children work through this difficult time. Talking to children about death should be done in a way that is appropriate to the child’s age level and their capacity to understand. This is a time where it is very important for families to talk with their child about how they are feeling and what they are experiencing. Attached with this letter is information to assist you. Remind your child that if they are struggling with this loss to seek out the support of an adult.

Throughout this week, mental health professionals will be available to support your child as needed. Information of the location of this support will be made available throughout the school. If as a family, you find you have a need of greater support, please make the mental health team aware and consider consulting a private mental health professional/clergy/family doctor or your other support systems.

As we move forward from this tragedy, please hold Mr. Harwell and his children in your thoughts. We realize that students and families may want to express their feelings and show their support. We will be collecting gift cards for the family. Please send your contributions to the main office.
