Volunteer Opening: Poulsbo Parks & Recreation Commission

This board meets on the 4th
Monday of every other month (beginning in February)
at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The Parks & Recreation Commission is  responsible for giving advisory recommendations to the City Council on all regulations, resolutions, plans, policies, projects, and proposals relating to the city parks system, recreational facilities, or open space
to promote public use and awareness of the city's park facilities and services, to hold public meetings to solicit public input for the parks  and open spaces planning process, and to apprise the City Council,  Public
Works Department,  and Parks &
Recreation Department  of the community's  park  and
recreational needs.
 
Applicants must reside within
the city limits of Poulsbo.

Those interested in serving on
the Poulsbo Parks & Recreation Commission should submit a completed  application
via e-mail  or mail to:

Cemetery's New Website
The Friends of Poulsbo Cemetery
has a new website:
 
The goals of the Friends of Poulsbo Cemetery between now and June 2018 are to prepare  and present to the
City of Poulsbo Public Works Committee  a Master Plan for the Poulsbo Municipal Cemetery while continuing to implement  cemetery improvement recommendations
 contained in the city "Report on Cemetery Improvement
Focus 2016 and 2017."

Discolored Water Issues
There have been a few recent discolored water events at various locations within the City of Poulsbo.
Public Works has determined the cause is
from manganese in the water.
 
 
For customers experiencing discolored water, Public Works recommends turning on all cold-water faucets at the same time and running them for a few minutes. Generally, if this is a localized event in certain pipes and waterlines, the water should clear up within a
few minutes. If not, please notify Public Works and a technician will be dispatched to investigate the issue.

Centennial Park Improvements
 
Come One! Come All!

In 2018, the City of Poulsbo will be working
on  a variety of tasks at Centennial Park -  at the  corner  of 7th Avenue and Iverson Street,
just across  from the Doctor's Clinic.
The goal is to improve that section of  Dogfish
Creek, while also providing public access
between  7th Avenue and 8th Avenue.

Some of the tasks will include cleaning up
the creek and removing invasives (Spring),
adding soft surface trails (Summer),
and planting native plants (late Fall). 

The City was fortunate to receive a grant from
The Five Star and Urban Waters Program, who seeks
to develop community capacity to sustain local natural resources nationwide for future generations by providing modest financial assistance to diverse local partnerships focused on improving water quality, watersheds and the species and habitats they support. Other local project partners include Western Washington University On the Peninsulas - Huxley College of the Environment, Poulsbo Tree Board, Suquamish Tribe, Poulsbo Garden Club,
Kitsap  Noxious Weed Board,  and
community volunteers such as yourself.

There will be various work parties throughout the year. Please check the Parks and Rec website to see
how the project is progressing, and to learn

Come rain or shine, the sale is on!

Many wonderful plants at very
reasonable prices will be available.

Money raised is returned to the community
as grants to local organizations for their
gardening projects. This year, $4,000 was
given to 11 organizations, including
Raab Park P-Patch and Youth Garden,
Martha and Mary Therapeutic Gardens,
Poulsbo Fire Station/Lions Club P-Patch,
Wolfle Elementary School Gardens,
NK Fishline Garden, and others.
The Garden Club meets the second Saturday morning of each month at the Poulsbo Library.

Commercial Code Update
The Planning and Economic Development Department (PED) has drafted an update to the Commercial Districts Code (PMC Chapter 18.80).
 
The primary purposes of the 2018 Commercial Districts Update is to incorporate development standards consistent with the land use and community character policies of the 2016 Poulsbo Comprehensive Plan; to ensure that commercial developments respect the scale, design and character of Poulsbo; provide for a mix of commercial land
uses that respond to market changes, and serve
the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors;
and provide clarifications in some areas where ambiguity of the development standards exist.

All pertinent documents will also be posted to this link as the public review process progresses.

The City encourages all interested parties to
review the Commercial Districts Code Update and attend any or all of the scheduled workshops.
