Wednesday electives
are a great chance for our high schoolers to learn something new alongside other students from across the grades. Electives change yearly and one of the advantages of the small school environment is that our selection of electives is frequently informed by student interests.
In today's Clowning class we asked the students what they thought were the best things about having elective classes (the teacher left the room). The students particularly liked that they get to make a choice based on their own interests, and that electives give them a chance to take an interest further than just a surface understanding. They also appreciated that electives are on Wednesday, providing a nice variation in the flow of the week.

Thinking Diversity Coffee with the Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice - "Indigenous Voices"

The WWS Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice invites us to collectively
consider the importance of indigenous voices with our guest Elizabeth Rule.
Dr. Rule is an enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and an active voice on indigenous issues in the DC metro area. She serves as the Assistant Director of the AT&T Center for Indigenous Politics and Policy and is also a Postdoctoral Fellow in American Studies in the Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies Collaborative at American University. We are thrilled that Dr. Rule is our guest speaker and we hope to see you there.

former WWS Class teacher and the author of our book study join us for this morning of reflection and sharing on the principles of Waldorf education. This event is open to the public, and parents from Acorn Hill and Potomac Crescent are warmly invited.

Black History Month Jazz Performances

Green Meadow Middle School Basketball Tournament
|
|
|
|
What a weekend was had at the Green Meadow Tournament! The middle school girls and boys basketball teams showed up with team spirit like no other. Each game was met with good sportsmanship and earnest efforts.
Our girls and boys teams won 2 out of each of their 3 games. Emmett and Caleb took 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, in the boys free throw competition.
Thank you to those families who were able to make the trip... the Knights' cheering section had a palpable energy that carried our teams as they played!

50th Anniversary Concert - Don't miss out!

Time for Three
and WWS. Band member Nicholas Kendall is a
WWS alumnus
. Time for Three is renowned for their charismatic performances in venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Royal Albert Hall.
Space is limited.
Tickets are $20 per person, which will cover the costs of the event.
Students through Grade 8 are free (ticket must still be reserved).

50th Anniversary Outdoor Shakespeare

As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, the school will stage a production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performed by members of the WWS community. The performance will take place Saturday, June 6, on the grounds of the school. Rehearsals will be 2-3 times per month beginning in February.

Singing Workshop at WWS

Christiaan Boele, a leading teacher in the Werbeck singing method is returning to the Washington Waldorf School this winter. He is offering a 90-minute-long workshop and has time that day for a limited number of 45-minute-long private lessons. First come, first served. The location of the 5 morning slots are TBD. The 3 afternoon slots will be at WWS.

Looking for Morning and After School Childcare
We just welcomed a new addition to our family over the holiday break. We are looking for a loving and joyful person to provide some extra help in the weekday mornings and after school. The duties would be helping care for our soon-to-be 3 year old and newborn (e.g., helping with afternoon activities at home and getting ready for school in the morning). We live a few minutes from WWS. If you have any recommendations or know of anyone who would be interested, we would be grateful.
