SHOULD WE WORRY ABOUT SOCIALISM?
There is nothing new about the popularity of Socialism.
It’s popularity in the United States has increased and decreased over the years since the time of Marx. Unfortunately, we are presently in an era of increase, particularly in the Millennials population. They don’t recognize that a lot of what they enjoy most in life is a result of capitalism and would disappear if socialism were to be implemented.
Part of today’s enthusiasm is due to the heart-warming adoration of Senator Bernie Sanders. He sounds so caring and mostly authentic to the younger voter. The election of “A.O.C.” of New York was also enthusiastically welcomed by this age group. Just think, from bar tending straight to Congress. Certainly must be a part of the American Dream.
With this increased enthusiasm, the Socialists have come out of their closets and actually run for office as a Socialist. They more successfully fund raise and find numerous ways to push their extreme agenda.
Would our young voters be so enthusiastic if they knew what they would have to give up under socialism?
One of the attractions to socialism is the philosophy ‘that everyone is equal’. A belief that has snuck into our schools and community sports that if you play; win or lose, you are equal and win a trophy. So unfair to those that put their heart, efforts, practice, study, and more into it, only to get the same amount of recognition as one who happens to show up.
Pure Socialism has never worked anywhere and most often metamorphoses into Communism which really has never worked for the good of all.
History shows that the conditions of society that made Socialism, and in fact the organization of worker unions necessary at the time of the Industrial Revolution changed. Changed as they should have. Thus making Socialism ever so unnecessary. Not even a little bit desirable.
So yes, we do need to worry about the popularity of Socialism. And yes, we must find ways to educate our young voters.
