The Bettendorf Public Library Information Center joins the American Library Association and libraries across the country to celebrate the 60th observance of National Library Week, April 8-14th. This annual occasion recognizes the many ways libraries lead their communities through the transformative services, programs, materials, and expertise they offer. Join us at the Bettendorf Public Library to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. This is an event for comic book fans of all ages. We will be offering a variety of comic book related programming throughout the day: crafts, movie screenings, and a presentation about the history of comics. Child’s Play | Create: Explore: Experience

This is a weekly opportunity for kids to explore their creative side. Rotating programs may include components of traditional storytimes, active movement and rhythm with music and dance, and simple crafts. The program is best suited for preschool age children but we will happily welcome all who wish to join us. No registration required. Child's Play will not meet on Saturday, November 25.

Book Explorers: Mock Newbery is an extension of our current Book Explorers Junior/Senior Book Clubs. Geared for grades 4-10, participants will meet once per month to review self selected books looking for the most distinguished contributions to American literature for children, in hopes of discovering the next Newbery Medal Winner for 2019. Books for selection to read and review will be available at our May 12th meeting. Registration is required and can be done online, by calling 563-344-4175 or at any service desk in the Library. Attendance at each monthly meeting is not required, but highly encouraged. Funding for Book Explorers provided by the Bettendorf Public Library Foundation.
After School Kids Lab
Wednesdays in April, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This is an opportunity for school-age kids to have fun on early-out Wednesdays. This program will alternate between making crafts, doing science experiments, playing games, and learning new skills. Drop in any time between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to create, have fun, or explore something new! No registration required. This program is funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
Reading Assistance Dogs
Thursdays, April 5 and May 3, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Children have the opportunity to read aloud to dogs from Quad City Canines. This is great practice for kids and helps them build their vocabulary and self-confidence.

Young Adult Tabletop Roleplaying

Manga Book Club

Are you a teen who loves manga? Then stop by the Quad to find out what manga we are reading this month. We will have copies available for you to read in the Quad. Each month we will discuss what we liked and didn't like. If you draw, bring in your manga art to show off. If you cosplay, tell us what inspires your creations. This program is funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.

Shred Day

Bring up to three standard file containers of personal papers (up to 100 pounds total) for secure shredding by The Shredders out of Des Moines. Save time while you protect your identity. Documents will be shredded on site, but you will not be able to watch your specific documents be shredded. Shred Day is funded by Iowa AARP.
A Two-Nation Study in the Muddled Middle East Lecture Series

An in-depth look at Israel and Syria with Dr. Art Pitz. The lectures on Israel will be hosted at the Bettendorf Public Library on April 30 and May 7. The lectures on Syria will be at Davenport Public Library Eastern Branch, 6000 Eastern Ave, Davenport, on May 14 and May 21. This lecture series is a partnership the Bettendorf Public Library, the Davenport Public Library, and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities. The lectures at Bettendorf Public Library are funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
Community Connections: Civilian Conservation Corps of Northeast Iowa
Thursday, May 17, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Linda McCann, author of Civilian Conservation Corps of Northeast Iowa, shares the stories of 18 men who were in the CCC. Community Connections is a monthly program for all ages focusing on local history, interests, and people, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
In April, the library will host Bettendorf Middle School's student artwork exhibit, which will be located on art walls A & B on the 2nd floor of the library.
