Spiritual Hunger
I am so looking forward to being back with you this Sunday! It is the first Sunday in an important season in the life of the church, known as Lent. Lent is a time for prayer, sometimes giving something up, sometimes adding something on, in order to help us grow in faith and relationship with God. All of this is intended to help us hear and respond to the story of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection in ways that keep us open to God's Spirit.

During this season, our theme is worship will be on "Spiritual Hunger." We can acknowledge together our longing for God, for meaning, for purpose, and we can find sustenance and nourishment in all sorts of ways, some of which we'll be talking about over the coming weeks. After worship, please plan to stay for a simple lunch of soup and bread, offered freely by various small groups in our church. This first week the children and youth of the Water's Edge Faith Community are leading this effort - and I'm so grateful to them and their families! Finally, please plan to stay for our book study during Lent, The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery. See you Sunday!

Blessings, Jessica

“The Season of Lent”
by William Stephenson, PhD

O Gracious Lord, teach me the meaning of Lent  so that I can become more aware of the need to be in the mood of penitence.

You are aware of where I am, for at times I am not sure what penitence means or what to do.

Now is the time to be “turned around” in my life. To see new awareness, new experiences renewed living.

Help me to be aware that I need to get beyond the talking stage, and give me strength to do what I know I must. Give me courage to become more than I am right now.

Keep in my awareness Your son, Jesus who lived a full life, sharing Your love with the whole world.

May I be comfortably surprised to know that Jesus’ death and resurrection was for me too…for me to experience in my own life.

I must face the cross in my own life… come to grips with what I do not like in my life and be resurrected into a new way of living.

Not only “turn me around” but “turn me on” to the new awareness of You and others.

Lord, guide me to know who I am and what I am to do.
Food Bank Shopping Event
Sunday, March 29

Following the service kids and parents will meet in the community room for lunch and learn about the food bank and its involvement in OB. We'll then drive to a local grocery store and shop for the food bank and when we return to the church, we'll help to restock the pantry. This event allows children to be of a great service to the less fortunate and be to a part of the food bank in this community.
