About the Save Rate report |
Here's the scoop:
March 31 - All shelters registered with the state of Michigan are required to submit their shelter report to
MDARD.
April -- May -- June: MDARD compiles the submitted reports. Michigan Pet Fund Alliance and others await the availability of the completed reports. For example the 2016 reports were available in June 2017
here.
July -- August: MPFA inputs data from the MDARD reports into spreadsheets and performs calculations for save rate, live release rate, and improvement percentage over prior years.
August -- September: MPFA releases the report and announces Shelter Award winners. From 2009-2014, we recognized shelters based on best save rate within their intake size, along with awards for most improved. Beginning in 2015, since SO MANY Michigan shelters were saving over 90%, we gave awards based on
Greatest Lifesaving Improvement. The 2016 awards are here.
Even though we are well into 2018, shelters haven't reached the deadline for submitting their 2017 reports to MDARD, so the most recent data we have is 2016.
The report is
sortable
so that you can easily find shelters alphabetically, sort by county, save rate, shelter euthanasia total, etc.
