Issues Affecting Older Adults at 2018 
Legislative Breakfasts

North Shore Senior Center Legislative Breakfast
Participation by legislators and local and county officials in the annual Legislative Breakfasts hosted by AgeOptions and community-based senior service agencies was on track to be the strongest ever.

Approximately 240 elected officials, village and township representatives, agency representatives and members of the public took part in the 2018 breakfasts.

Jonathan Lavin, AgeOptions president and CEO, has notified the AgeOptions Board of Directors of his intent to retire on October 31, 2018. This will be his 40th anniversary with AgeOptions and 45th in the field of aging.

n4a Launches engAGED -
The National Resource Center 
for Engaging Older Adults 

 

n4a, the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, has launched a new resource to provide the Aging Network with the most up-to-date tools and strategies for engaging older adults in a variety of ways. Called engAGED - The National Resource Center for Engaging Older Adults - the resource center will collect and disseminate information about engagement practices, resources and tools the Aging Network can use in their communities.
 
New Storytelling Tool Gives Clients a Voice 


The RAISE Family Caregivers Act passed by Congress in January and signed by President Trump brings hope now - and help in the future - to family caregivers. 
 
Nominate Outstanding Volunteers
For 43rd Annual Recognition

Guests at the 2017 Volunteer Luncheon

Agencies and communities throughout the Chicagoland area are invited to nominate volunteers who contribute their time and talents to improving the quality of life for older adults. Volunteers will be honored at AgeOptions' 43rd Annual Luncheon and Volunteer Recognition June 14. Nominations are due by Wednesday, May 9, and will be considered on a first-come basis for up to 30 volunteers.

On October 18 AgeOptions will host our 14th annual fundraising event - Celebrating Leadership - from 6 to 9 pm in the beautiful Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Last year's event, attended by more than 350 guests, raised more than $100,000 that directly benefits programs and services for older adults.

Puts AgeOptions In Congressional Record 


When Kris Sadur retired in January as an aide to U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, the congresswoman read a tribute that was entered into the Congressional Record.
AgeOptions is noted in the Congressional Record as an important part of Kris's background and service to older persons.
 
Margaret Hastings
Former Advisory Council Member 


Margaret "Pat" Mitchell Hastings, who served on the AgeOptions Advisory Council from 2004 to 2016, died on December 25, 2017.
