Hello,

Happy New Year! 2020 is already off to an incredible start at your Y. With Bill and Michelle Service's generous $4 million gift setting the tone for this year, we expect 2020 to be the year that we complete fundraising for the new Y, set a groundbreaking and grand opening dates and celebrate soon-to-be-realized expansion of programs and services. Cheers to all that we will accomplish in the new year!

$4 Million Leadership Gift
Your Y is grateful to have received its single largest gift from a private donor toward the Capital Campaign. Bill and Michelle Service's $4 million gift will have a last ing impact on the community, as it contributes to building the new Y.

Michelle and Bill Service
"We believe in the miracles that the Y gives families of all shapes and sizes because we have witnessed its broad and diverse impact over three generations," said Bill and Michelle. "We are inspired and committed to making this project a reality."

Bill grew up at the Eugene YMCA and Michelle grew up attending her local Y in California. Both have had formative experiences at the Y. These experiences were so significant that they chose to raise their three sons at the Y too. The Services know first-hand how the Y plays a crucial role in the community and can provide incredible experiences to members through multiple generations, as they have also been fortunate to see their grandkids involved in the Y.

Thank you Bill and Michelle for your dedication to the Y community and our future!

Afterschool Program Expands to All of South Lane School District
Fun Club Coordinator Michele teaches math through card games at the afterschool program at the Y.
Your Y is excited to announce that our Harrison afterschool program will now be available to Bohemia, Dorena and London schools --- all of the elementary schools within the South Lane School District. Students will be transported by South Lane School District buses to Harrison. Care will be available there until 6 p.m. on weekdays. This new option is available starting Feb. 1.

"Quality childcare is a high priority but often a financial and logistical puzzle for families," said Eugene Family YMCA CEO Brian Steffen. "The Y's mission is to provide services to all--- regardless of ability to pay. This expansion helps us fulfill that mission in a place where the need is quite high."

Thank You for Your End-of-Year Giving!
Your Y wants to give a big THANK YOU to all of our donors, members and volunteers who have supported our mission during our end-of-year giving campaign!

Thanks to you, your Y successfully completed Betty Soreng's $500,000 match toward the Capital Campaign AND raised tens of thousands of dollars to ensure that seniors are making connections, individuals are regaining their health and wellness, and kids have the opportunity to attend summer camp --- regardless of financial constraints.

Donations can be made any time of year: click here.

Thank you for helping us provide wellness and community for ALL!

Pickleball Players Raised Almost $2,400 on New Year's Eve!
The 2019 New Year's Eve Pickleball Fundraiser was a huge success! Players had a blast and raised $2,384 for the Y's Financial Assistance Program, ensuring that everyone finds a place of welcome and belonging at the Y. Thank you to everyone who participated!

New Decal Offers Parking Karma
Are you a member who drives and struggles to find parking? In an effort to try to improve the parking situation, we have created a new Y Parking Decal for your rear bumper, available at the Welcome Center.

These decals will not magically solve our lack of parking, but it will empower Y staff to locate vehicles parked in Y designated spots that don't have a decal and ask those vehicle owners not to park there.

Remember, available Y parking spots include the small Y parking lot between the main facility and tennis center, street parking and designated spots facing Patterson St. in the South Eugene High School parking lot. South Eugene High School students are back from Winter Break, so please remember to only park in the spots facing Patterson Street.

And when all else fails, remember, parking karma--- it's a thing.

Reverse Your Risk of Diabetes at the Y
Twenty people started 2020 almost 20 pounds lighter! That's because they completed the year-long YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program, lost an average of 19.4 lbs, became more physically active, and reduced their risk of type 2 diabetes. If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, you could too!

"The classes keep me focused and on track," said Syndee West, who participated in the program last year. "The camaraderie, the pats on the back and the group interactions keep me going. It's a lifeline for me and I want others to know that it can be a lifeline for them. It truly changes lives."

Your Y Benefits From 24-hour Marketing Marathon, Called CreateAthon Oregon
Your Y is thrilled to be one of ten local nonprofits selected for the inaugural CreateAthon Oregon 2020.

This program gives University of Oregon students and local professionals the opportunity to give back to their community. CreateAthon Oregon is a 24-hour marketing marathon at the end of January. In February, the Y will receive the strategic and creative work that is produced during the 24 hours and use it to support the Y's outreach efforts.

Your Y has partnered with the University of Oregon for many years, collaborating on various projects for the community. CreateAthon Oregon 2020 is an exciting opportunity for the Y to acquire fresh marketing materials that will further the Y's mission.

We will keep you posted on the collaboration and results!

Please Note the Y's Etiquette for the Wellness and Efficiency of All
As we start a new year with new members, please help each other remember the Y's rules and etiquette for the positive atmosphere of our Y and the wellness of all!
Here are a few rules to keep in mind:
The Y's Health and Wellness Center does not permit cellphone conversations. Please find a private place to have private conversations. Cell phone use is not permitted in the locker rooms.

For the Meading Room and Movement Center, please do not enter the rooms until the previous class has fully exited. Likewise, when your class has ended, please have final conversations in the hallway or the lobby so the next class can come in and set up.

Y Kudos
Yasmine Jemmali, 14, took home 5 trophies in her recent gymnastics meet! Her dad, Y Tennis Instructor Mo Jemmali, is rightfully proud---and so are we! Congrats, Yasmine!
