S.T.E.A.M. Lab
Our week in STEAM has been really fun! We began our Tikkun Olam unit through which our students learned all about the impacts of our plastic waste on our environment. Our youngest students learned about planet Earth and read about how Grover and his friends practice Tikkun Olam. Our older students looked at the life-cycle of plastic bottles and learned about some solutions to our wasteful habits. All of our STEAM students finished making our sea turtle plastic mural for the Zoo! Once it is dry and ready, we will be displaying it at school before presenting it to the Houston Zoo.

Outdoor Learning
Students in Mrs. Pollak's 7th and 8th grade
chumash
(Bible) class have been studying the various encampments and travelings of the 12 tribes during their 40 year period in the desert. The students went outside to figure out the complications and huge efforts the Jewish people were put through during these massive upheavals.

College Prep
This week, RMBA hosted Uri Cohen, the Executive Director of Hillel at Yale University. He spoke with juniors and seniors about Jewish life at Yale and on college campuses in general. He also gave our students great suggestions for how to translate their unique day school experiences into words on their college applications that will be meaningful to admissions directors.

Area Learning Games
Students in Mrs. Schneider's 5th grade class began a unit on Area and Perimeter. Students created squares and rectangles out of blue tape on the floor. Then, they challenged their classmates to calculate the area and perimeter of each polygon.

|
|
Newton's Laws
While learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion in Ms. Goldstein’s physical science class, 8th grade students are designing and creating models that represent each of Newton’s laws. Each model must be designed in such a way that it can be manipulated and then 3D printed. That way it fully represents Newton’s law and can be used for further experiments in class.

Tu B'Shvat Trees
Morah Roza's 2nd grade Hebrew class enjoyed a learning opportunity in the Magical Forest as they learned about the trees and their various parts in honor of Tu B'Shvat. Students collected leaves and branches and created a bookmark with the dried pieces. They also used recyclable materials to create a painting.

Reverent Reflection
The 11th-12th "Reverent Reflection" elective recently completed a unit on "Inspiring Personalities." Each student researched a different personality and then presented that information to the rest of the class. The students learned about some amazing Jewish leaders ranging from trailblazers such as Sarah Shneirer to academics including Avivah Zornberg to
Gedolei HaDor
[great/est (one of) the generation] like the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Rav Yisrael Meir Lau. In addition to their class presentation, students reflected through a journal entry on how their research on their assigned person inspired them in some way. The presentations were terrific, and students really enjoyed learning and sharing their knowledge.

Kindergarten Poker?
Poker school in Kindergarten?! No, just the Kindergarten students enjoying one of the new Math games they learned, Top It. While learning about numbers more than and less than, they learned a card game which requires them to learn the numbers and which are greater and which are less.

Tu B'Shvat Celebrations
On Sunday RMBA was proud to host over 140 participants for PJ Library's Tu B'Shvat in the Magical Forest. Children enjoyed healthy snacks, Tu B'Shvat themed yoga, a scavenger hunt through the forest, story time in the amphitheater, and lots of playground fun. Thank you to Hadas Levy and Hilary Kamin for coordinating the beautiful morning.

The Athletic Award Dinner will take place on Monday, March 30, 2020 at 6:00 PM in the ulam.
High S
chool Girls Basketball
The HS Girls will host the Oaks Adventist school for their last game of the season on Thursday. The girls showed up big on senior night with an impressive win against CHSA.
High School Boys Basketball
The HS Boys wrapped up TAPPS district 9-1A play with an impressive win over Covenant Academy on senior night. This puts the Stars at 16-3 for the year and 8-0 in district play. They will take on the 3rd place finisher in district 7-1A in the first round of the playoffs. That information will be available early next week.
