Miami Herald: US mayors back plan for cities to use only renewable energy
A bipartisan group of mayors from across the country unanimously backed an ambitious commitment for U.S. cities to run entirely on renewable sources such as wind and solar in two decades.
As the U.S. Conference of Mayors wrapped up in Miami Beach on Monday, leaders from more than 250 cities voted on symbolic resolutions pushing back against President Donald Trump on climate change and immigration.

I Love the Burg: Final Design for St. Pete's $1.25 Million Skate Park
After much anticipation, the final design for the St. Pete Skate Park has been revealed. Team Pain offers a virtual tour of the park that will be a home for recreation and education.

Site work at the park - located at 16th Street and 5th Avenue South - is set to begin soon. Nick Nicks and Daniel C. Brown of the
St. Pete Skate Park Alliance
and Jay Turner of
School of Skatin'
worked closely with Karl Nurse and St. Pete City Council to get the project approved in May of 2016. The project is financed through the city's Weeki Wachee Fund.

Bay News 9: City officials take part in St. Pete Pier groundbreaking
St. Petersburg city leaders broke ground June 28 on the new pier, finally moving forward with construction on a project that some feared would never get started.
The multi-million dollar project has been designed and re-designed over the last two years, as the pier site remained an empty void after the inverted pyramid pier was torn down late last year.
Mayor Rick Kriseman said it was worth the wait.

St. Petersburg city leaders broke ground on the new Pier and Pier District.

spoke Wednesday morning on the north side of the Pier Approach along with Deputy Mayor
Kanika Tomalin, District Four city council member
Darden Rice, city managing director
Chris Ballestra, Pier project designer Vince Lee, citizen Steve Urgo and teen Betsy Johnson.
"Today is not a dream. This is real life," Kriseman said. "We are actually building a pier."

Tampa Bay Times: Last steel beam marks construction milestone for Tom and Mary James' museum
Tom and Mary James on Wednesday signed their names to the last steel beam framing the 105-ton stone mesa that will be built at the entrance of the museum that bears their name: the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art.
Wednesday's event represented a construction milestone for the $55 million museum being built at 100 Central Ave., said project director Laura Hine, who was among the dozens of officials, community guests and crew members who signed the beam.

The billionaire media mogul announced this week that Bloomberg Philanthropies would spend more than $200 million over the next three years to help the nation's mayors solve the most vexing problems facing their communities. Bloomberg is acting in response to the hostility and indifference in Washington and to the challenges mayors face, from violent crime and opioid abuse to the need for affordable housing. Both Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman plan to participate, and this initiative could provide a much-needed jolt for the economic and social backbone of the country.
