Crystalline Mirror Solutions, LLC Acquired by Thorlabs and Will Continue to Develop UNM Laser Cooling Technology

Thorlabs, an optical equipment company based in Newton, NJ, recently announced their acquisition of the business assets of Crystalline Mirror Solutions, LLC (CMS). CMS was a startup company focusing on low-noise reflective optics, whose technology portfolio included a UNM technology developed by Dr. Mansoor Sheik-Bahae, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and his team, at the University of New Mexico (UNM). The technology provides an advanced design as a solution to fully power-scale vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VECSELs) while thermally managing the device. UNM Technology Licensed by GPER-G1 has Published in Renowned Medical Journal

Congratulations to Dr. Eric Prossnitz and GPER G-1 Development Group, a New Mexico Start-Up Factory II Portfolio Company for the notable publication in Science Translational Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) journal. The manuscript titled “Preclinical efficacy of the first-in-class GPER-selective agonist Tespria in mouse models of obesity and diabetes," was written by Distinguished Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Molecular Medicine, Eric Prossnitz. This publication highlights the recent discovery of the novel G protein-coupled Estrogen Receptor (GPER) as a novel therapeutic target for obesity and diabetes. READ THE PUBLICATION

The Lobo Rainforest I-Corps Site at UNM is now accepting applications for the spring 2020 cohort!

Receive entrepreneurial training, mentoring and $3,000 to conduct market/customer discovery! Do you have an idea for a technology? Explore the transition of your technology to the marketplace through this entrepreneurial training program to help determine if your technology is ready for the market. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), this program’s purpose is to teach UNM faculty and students to identify market or product opportunities that can emerge from academic research or student ideas. 10-15 UNM teams (open to all Campuses) will be selected to participate. The program will run Mondays, 4:30-6:00 p.m. from February 24 – May 4, 2020 and includes entrepreneurial training, mentoring and $3,000 to conduct market/customer discovery. Virtual participation is also available via Zoom. If you are a UNM faculty or student who wants to find out more about the program and apply for the Spring 2020 session, go to the Lobo Rainforest I-Corps .
