Camp Kudzu E-News: June 2017 Edition

Better than Christmas?
Session 1 in  June
"She said she loves it more than all the presents during Christmas."
(A response to the survey sent after our June session)

Over 130 children and teens, ages 5-17, took every advantage of the terrific activities available at our brand new location.  And what did they think about having Camp Kudzu at YMCA Lake Allatoona?

"We LOVED the lake!" "The lake activities were so awesome!" "Color Wars was the best one ever!"  "We had the best clinician we've ever had." "The cabins were pretty good." "She's 15 and every night she says she wants to be at camp."

Medical Corner: Food Safety Outdoors

The days are hotter and the nights are longer.  This can only mean one thing...  Summer is here and it's time to fire up the grill!  Now the warmer weather may be ideal for us to spend hours out in the fresh air, but it is not ideal for holding food.  During the summer months there is a jump in foodborne illness cases.

Here are some USDA food safety tips from the to keep in mind...   Read on for terrific food safety tips for outdoor barbecuing, picnicking and camping!

Thank you to Carrie Claiborne, Dietetic Intern and Masters of Science in Nutrition student.
Adventures in Fund Raising!

Please join Camp Kudzu's team at Spin for Kids!  This year marks our 5th year at this event.  Registration is open now!  Spin for Kids is a fundraiser that makes our diabetes camps possible for dozens of kids at Camp Twin Lakes.

Spin for Kids is October 15, at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA.  The routes include beautiful country-side and quaint towns like Rutledge and Madison.  And they're relatively flat!  You can choose what distance suits you, from 5 miles to a century ride.  The day is full of celebration, good food, and treats for riders.

Thank you, Eloise Lamons, for chairing this event, and thank you, Nikki Penda, for co-chairing!  We have another leader in the wings - and they all will cheer you on and assist you in your training and fund-raising efforts!

Kendra Scott is hosting a benefit evening sale for Camp Kudzu, Tuesday, July 25, at the  Avalon location.  Please contact Doris Pierce-Hardy for more information:  [email protected] or 404.250.1811, x25.
