Summer 2017
The final days of the 2016-2017 school came and went in an instant.  This month was filled with many year-end activities for our students before they began their summer vacations.
PMA Today
Final Mass and Awards Ceremony
John Morris, '18 Blessed Anne Marie Rivier Scholarship Recipient.

Wednesday, June 7th PMA Celebrated it's final Mass in the Sisters' Chapel, followed by the end of the year awards ceremony.  At this ceremony, teachers distribute class awards in all subject matters to students based on merit and excellence.

Academic scholarships are also awarded, including the coveted, Blessed Anne Marie Rivier Scholarship.  This scholarship is named after PMA's foundress, and gives a year of free tuition to one rising junior, and this year John Morris was selected as the recipient.   The Carace' Family are the selfless donors of this scholarship.

National Spanish Exam Medal Winners

PMA Spanish students earned medals and honorable mentions by scoring well on the National Spanish Examinations.

"Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examination is very prestigious," said Kevin Xessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, "because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017."

This year Briana Guzman, '18 earned a Gold Medal.  The Silver medal winners were Patricia Roque, '19, Nathalie Garcia, '19,  and Dariana Mota, '19. Bronze medal winners were Darleen Castro, '18, Stephanie Maldonado, '18, and Alex Thrumond, '19.

The medal winners are students of Spanish Teachers Pauline Giannantonio or Zulema Llerena.

Le Grand Concours (National French Contest) Winners

PMA students ranked nationally in the 82nd Le Grand Concours.  This is a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.  Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills in French.   More than 85,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2017 event.

Silver Medal winners for PMA were Olivia Alvino, '20 and Mateo Ferrer, '19.  The Bronze Medal winners were Leslie Ramos, '20, Mckenzie Ferrari, '19 and Marcella Pedro, '19.  There were also several students who earned honorable mentions.

Each winner is a  student of PMA French Teacher, Joan Anderson.

Erin Frey: Coburn Award for Excellence Recipient

In May, Math teacher Erin Frey was honored by the College of Education at UMass Lowell with the Coburn Award for Excellence in Secondary Teaching.

Mrs. Frey was nominated by one of her professors and the entire faculty selected her as the recipient of this prestigious award.
Lazarus House Service Trip
Sixteen students volunteered at Lazarus House after school on Monday, June 5th, and spent time touring the facility and making sandwiches for the people who would be coming to eat later in the evening.
This particular service project was brought about by sophomore Sophia Bellia, who has been volunteering at Lazarus House for the past few summers.  She mentioned this opportunity to PMA's campus minister, Francis Stanton,  with the hopes of having a group of five to eight to attend.  PMA students rose to the occasion and doubled that number for the outing at Lazarus House.

The number of students who were willing to give up their time was a pleasant sight for the coordinators at Lazarus House.   With the level of enthusiasm this service project received, future ones are being planned and bound to be just as successful.

LIFT
On the Tuesday, June 6th, nine PMA students took a "study break"
to spend some time with Jesus in the sacrament of the Eucharist at the last LIFT event of the school year.   LIFT is a night full of Christian rock praise and worship music that also provides participants the opportunity to go to confession and spend time in adoration.  The  students traveled  to St. Anthony's in Cambridge to take part in the faith-filled and uplifting event.  The students saw this as a great way to alleviate the stress of upcoming finals and to relax for a little bit and they prayed for some divine intervention to help them do well on their exams.!

Discover the Potential: Capital Campaign

Proposed Main Entrance

In 2002, PMA embarked on a $1 Million Capital Campaign to
build the Dupre Sports and Arts  Center. This monumental undertaking added a new larger athletic  center, theater and expanded arts center. Alumni, parents, community partners,  and friends all showed their belief in the future of PMA with their financial support.  Flash forward to 2017, and PMA is again looking to invest in our future. A ground  breaking will occur this month to begin the renovation of the Edward F. Searles  Carriage House which is the heart of the Academy building. This exciting expansion  will include a new sun-drenched atrium style entrance, along with other  improvements that will enhance the accessibility and  safety for our students, staff, and visitors.  Today the need is great. The 2017-2020  Capital Campaign needs to raise $1 Million.
