School is almost out for the summer, but Side by Side is just getting started!

Kristin Hughes is the mother of Kathryn Hughes, a kindergarten student at Bond Mill Elementary.
They attended every Great Start session this school year-8 in total!

"The curriculum has changed since I was in school.  Great Start helped me understand some of the ways I can help my daughter.  I don't have to worry that what I'm trying to show her is going to conflict with what she's doing in school.  That's a huge thing to me with all of the common core changes.

Anyone who is a first time parent would really benefit from coming to these workshops.  Great Start gives you another connection to your child's teacher. Yes, we met the teachers at the Back to School night and at conferences, but to have that additional time with the teachers helped us.  It has helped me better connect with her teacher and how things work at school, so Kathryn and I can better discuss a day's events and then I can better help with what she brings home from school."
Great Start is Growing!
Starting in the fall of 2017, Side by Side will be expanding our workshops to Calverton Elementary. Calverton is the third largest elementary school in Prince George's County with  about 870 students. We look forward to getting to know its families!

We want to offer special thanks to a great team from Academy Ford, who helped us serve the dinner at Laurel Elementary School's final Family Night for the
2016-17 school year!
Academy Ford has been a great supporter of our mission to help local schools.
Christmas in July is Coming!
This summer, Side by Side will be hosting Christmas in July at several local churches and online. It's the perfect opportunity to bring a little school year cheer to Great Start families by donating supplies we use for our workshops or the monetary equivalent of a Game Night bucket or new children's book. Stay tuned for more information soon on how you can help our families and program thrive.
