National Healthy Skin Month
November is National Healthy Skin Month and with our skin being our largest organ it is important we treat it right. The most important tip for keeping skin healthy is protecting it daily by wearing a broad spectrum SPF of 30 or higher, seeking shade when outdoors and wearing sun protective clothing.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States (one in five Americans will develop a skin cancer in their lifetime) with UV light exposure being the most preventable risk factor for all skin cancers.

Interesting skin facts
  • Skin makes up 15% of body weight
  • Skin cells are renewed every 28-30 days. New skin cells are made in the deepest layer of the skin and gradually make their way to the surface where they eventually are shedded. We shed around 30,000 cells per minute.
  • There are more than 1000 types of bacteria on your skin. Bacteria fight off infection, reduce skin inflammation, and heal wounds.
  • There are three layers of skin: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The epidermis is the top layer of the skin which creates a waterproof barrier. The dermis is the middle layer which contains hair follicles, sweat glands and connective tissue. The hypodermis is the deep layer made of fat and connective tissue.

Featured Procedure
Ultherapy
Ultherapy is a non invasive procedure which uses ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen production to lift and tighten the skin. It is the only FDA approved treatment to lift skin on the neck, under the chin, and on the eyebrow. It can also be used on the chest to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Ultherapy works by delivering targeted ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration to stimulate production of fresh new collagen. Patients reach peak results around 2-3 months after their treatment. The treatment time depends on the area and can vary from 60-90 minutes. There is no downtime with Ultherapy. After the treatment skin may appear red and flushed but this usually resolves within a few hours. Some patients may experience mild swelling or tenderness in the treatment area. Less common post procedure effects include bruising or numbness. At Skin Center we offer treatment to completion which may include pre and post procedure care for optimal results.
Ask Dr. G
I was recently asked what the best credit card is for someone who travels frequently.

I am a big fan of the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card as the perks it offers covers most of the annual fee, which is not cheap.

The current annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card is $450. Sorry, I should have warned you to sit down before throwing that number out there. Now, before you say “Dr. Galitzer has lost his mind!!!” let me explain the perks:

  1. There is a $300 credit for any charges related to travel including (but not limited to); airline tickets, seat upgrades, in-flight entertainment, excess baggage fees, hotel stays, parking, tolls, taxi rides (including ride-share services), UberEATS orders, and public transportation.
  2. $100 Global Entry/TSA Precheck credit.
  3. Roadside Assistance - including free battery boost, flat tire service, 2 gallons of fuel delivery, towing, or lockout assistance.
  4. Complimentary access to more than 1,000 airport lounges and you can bring 2 guests with you
  5. Trip cancellation and interruption insurance
  6. Baggage delay insurance
  7. Lost luggage insurance
  8. Trip delay insurance
  9. Car rental insurance
  10. No foreign transaction fees

If you take full advantage of the card: the $300 travel related credit + $100 Global Entry Credit (once every 5 years) + Cancel your current roadside assistance + Access to the airport lounges + all the insurances (that you hopefully never have to use) = THIS CARD PAYS FOR ITSELF

BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE!!!
The card offers a bonus of 50,000 points if you spend $4,000 in first 3 months. The 50,000 points can be used on their website, Chase’s Ultimate Rewards, to purchase $750 worth of travel.

All in all you can get a credit card that pays you $750 for using it the first year, and if you find you like the other features you might just keep it forever.

Here is a link to the card:

Until next time,
