Consignment Benefits: The Environment The Eco-Conscious Choice in Fashion
If you've been a Two Big Blondes consignor, you already know how nice it is to receive a check in the mail or use your store credit for new outfits. But you can feel good about your consignment beyond your own pocket - it is an enormous benefit to our environment.
As the "fast fashion" trend has taken hold of the fashion industry (cheap &
disposable clothing), textile waste has become a growing strain on our environment. The
Circular Fibres Initiative explains
, "
Every second, the equivalent of one garbage truck of textiles is landfilled or burned. An estimated US$500 billion value is lost every year due to clothing that's barely worn and rarely recycled. If nothing changes, by 2050 the fashion industry will use up a quarter of the world's carbon budget."
Here at Two Big Blondes we're proud to be part of the recycling of clothing through consignment. The items you bring in are saved from the landfill and the items purchased reduce the demand for more production. In addition, items you donate find new homes through our nonprofit either directly to those in need or through our bi-annual bag sale. Lastly, soiled fabrics are donated to a textile recycling program.
